If we need to sell in order to give room and funds to bring in players Lampard wants then Richy is the one sadly that would go, he's not better than DCL up front, we have options in that wide forward position in gray and Gordon, and good quality wide players there are simply more of them around.
And exactly the same applies to him, I said the same last year. This isn’t a reflection on DCL it’s just looking at the realities of the situation.

I know what you’re saying but what you’re effectively saying there is ‘we couldn’t find a good striker 30 years ago so we won’t be able to do it now’. I just don’t really agree with that premise.

Again, this isn’t me saying put him on the transfer list and sell him regardless, it’s me saying he may well want to move and there may well be interest at a decent price, and if that’s the case then I wouldn’t dismiss it out of hand. If he wants to stay and/or the bids aren’t there then that’s great.
Name a striker better than DCL that would join a side fighting to avoid relegation.

If say we'd loaned in Broja and he's done as well as he had for Saints mate, then yeah I could see selling after arranging say a permanent deal to bring in someone you know can step into that void, but it's a massive gamble otherwise, one that if you fail on replacing him with similar quality will set any progress back hugely in other areas.

Fair enough Dobbin could bang in 7-8 this season or Richy could be started up front and shine in the system and stay another season in which case the ground changes.

But we don't even need to consider offers, we're not in financial trouble, and you might not personally be advocating selling him but many others in this thread don't rare him and would jump at the chance to cash in on him, which is baffling.
That’s a totally different point then. I can only really comment on how I see it and you were replying to me. I rate him but can see the logic in selling at the right price, there’s nothing more sinister to it than that.

He cost a fortune at the time - great scored of many goals for us.''.

At different times under Moyes we had the right pieces of the jigsaw puzzle - sometimes defence was solid, sometimes one striker but no midfield, then Cahill Arteta together but no top striker for a long time together...would have been amazing if everyone was fit & firing together for even one season.

Still won nothing....

Are you sure? We spent next to zero in the Summer and had to flog one of our better players to buy in January coupled with some very creative fee structuring.

Leicester have shown what can happen if you get a group of decent to good players who are injury free for 12 months.
