I would just let Benitez run things.. that way if he fails nobody else can be blamed but him.. these DOF people waste more money than managers just look at what Walsh and Brands wasted.. at least if a manager comes in and is not performing you can sack him,, what happens if the DOF is poor.. all that happens is the manager in charge gets blamed and the DOF gets a walkover....
Shut up Aldo.

Under no circumstances should Benitez, be left to his own devices with regards to the transfer policy.
Well let’s be brutally honest here.. he won’t do any worse than Walsh or Brands now will he and he does have history of signing some good players he also has experience of what type of player is needed for a certain project..

Is this the same Benitez who bottled winning the league, with the likes of Gerrard Torres Xabi Alonso and Mascherano in his squad?

Steve Walsh was a disaster yes, but i think Marcel Brands wasn't given the necessary scope, to do what he was hired for. The owner wouldn't leave him do his job.

Worrying this - we are going to potentially appoint a DOF, but not give the new DOF the scope to actually do the job properly

If you allow a manager to have sole control over who buys and sells players and the owner to pick and choose the new manager, there will never be any continuity and we will flit from one style to another without any thought as to whether players we've bought are suited to it

We need a football person controlling the football at the club, not a billionaire accountant

Problem is that Benitez wants control over a lot of what the DOF does, so seems pointless appointing a new one for now. But as soon as Benitez goes, we are going to need one

Benitez is now consolidating his position as supreme leader.

Unlimited power.

As good or bad that team might of been it was still not as good as the United team it was chasing with Van Der Sar..Vidic. Ferdinand.. Scholes.. Rooney.. Giggs..Berbatov etc.. So blaming Benitez is hardly fair.

Les Ferdinand could be one to watch. Doing some encouraging work at QPR. Turned them from a money-spunking basket case into something more sustainable. But still a long way to go.
