Rondon a FSW signing I believe.

Free transfers are typically crap hence why they aint going for £50 million mate.

Townsend was a free transfer and has done well so 2/3 on a £1.7m budget after we've spent over £250 million on Iwobi, Kean, Tosun, Klassan, Bolasie, Siggurdsson, Sandro, Gomes, Delph, Schneiderlin, Gbamin etc isn't bad in my book.

The fella hasn't been backed, has been here 5 minutes and has just 2 of his own players in the starting 11 when everyone is fully fit (and those 2 have been 2 of our best players so far this season).

Anyone who seriously wants this fella sacked just so we can appoint someone else to also struggle with this same group of players once injuries hit is a Blue Geordie imo.

I posted several thread advocating for Moyes when the manager job was vacant within the last 8 or so years. Got shot down each time, comments like Moyes is finished, people calling me a wum etc and people calling for fonseca or Sergio conceciao because apparently they have better credentials because they've won the Portuguese title once.

The job David Moyes did at Everton was exceptional. He had resources which couldn't match the top teams but were the same as the rest of the league and most seasons he would come top of that rest of the league table. He then went into a number of jobs after that where he was simply not given the time to build or was in jobs which were poison chalices like the Man Utd job.

At West ham he joined initially and kept them up but the fans didn't want him because he isn't a fashionable name so they got rid and hired pellegrini. That set them back a season, but the board knew moyes was the right guy. They took him back and now he has them exactly where we were. The best of the teams behind the so called super clubs. That's proof of what he can do. I'm not buying this bottle job mentality people give him when it comes to breaking barriers. At Everton, every time he came close to breaking the top 4 (again because he did do it once) he would lose a top player to City or elsewhere. If he had the resources we have now, then without doubt he wins something.

But.... would I prefer Moyes or Rafael. Well for me Rafael has equal credentials to Moyes. He's also a top proven manager, but will need time. He has already shown at the start of the season with the first 5 or 6 games that he can get a tune out of our best players and have us competing well and looking effective. Then he lost 4 or 5 of our best players to injury. It cannot be questioned how hard that would be to deal with considering the standard of our backup players. Rafael will need 3 transfer windows to be judged. I do fear that given the injury crisis the pressure could ramp up on him with the fixtures upcoming. But we need to stick with him and let him build a squad for the future like moyes has with west ham. I don't think I would pick one over the other between benitez and moyes, both are premier league greats and at least we have one of them at the helm now.
Great post mate, chop the last paragraph of completely though. The loser mentality associated with Moyes is crazy, he saved the club from what looked relegation,we were lost for years before he was appointed, he allowed fans to be arrogant and demand trophies again because he got us to believe again, we were always the best of the rest never looking over our shoulders again and always looking up in expectation. He had players fighting for the shirt he put pride back into the team and fanbase. He operated on peanuts unlike the teams above us, pissing off arrogant managers, finishing above rs, European nights, Europa Leagues, champs league, cup final and with a united team and fanbase he gave us a direction and an identity we've lost since he left. 1 Moyes is worth 20 benitezs. Moyes with this Iranians money we'd have silverware and Champions league.

Moyes did very well with us, but I think his contribution was best summed up by Martinez coming in, immediately fixing the glaring hole in that squad and us being very unlucky not to get a CL place. His success now is down to two main things - being at a club that wants him, and signing Soucek and Coufal. Neither of them would be true here so I wouldn't want him back.

Benitez on the other hand has deliberately walked into the lions den and hasn't hid even after a horrendous run of injuries. I didn't want him as manager and last weekend almost broke me but based on the previous games to that he does look to be on the right track to get the squad we have now playing to its strengths.

I just hope his stubbornness gives away to a bit of ruthlessness - if players (Rondon being the obvious example) aren't playing well, drop them and give someone else a chance. If that person takes that chance, then make other players earn their spots back.

I wouldn’t want Moyes back. Ok he’s doing a great job at West Ham, but when has it ever really worked. I know he was at West Ham before, but was only there a short time.

Also he would be under massive pressure IMO. Similar to Rafael, as a number of fans wouid be against him from day 1

Moyes at the moment is also having a bit of luck with injuries, has had a very settled team for over a year. That is huge bonus.

They had a great chance for top 4 last season with 5/6 games to go and blew it. I think he won’t change if they get to a cup semi or final, he will go back to that defensive mindset.

Didn't make me proud. Thought he did an average job abely assisted by Kenwright who refused to sack him. Could and possibly should have been sacked several times.

The real problem is the same group of misfits. Moyes would struggle with this crowd too as have martinez, silva, koeman ,sam and Benitez.

Until the majority of them are moved and an identity brought back into the club on it will be the same no matter who takes charge

Would moyes play rondon though. Doubtful.

TBF Moist did buy Saha and gave him many, many games (as did Cheebs)

Very reactive.

Wasn't long ago West Ham fans wanted Moyes out - the covid break saved him.

He got a bit of time but come the end of both Benitez and Moyes careers there will only be one answer on who was the more successful/better manager.

There's also only 3 points seperating the sides.

Benitez will say 8th means nothing.
Moyes will say 8th means manager of the season.
Good analogy GOT., whilst I'm not his biggest fan perse, I don't think many other managers could have got as much out of this current squad taking all of the injuries into account as Benitez has, and it hurts me to say that.

Stupid comparison...who has won more titles...that should tell you which one is the better manager. If moyes was that amazing, he wouldn't have been sacked for united or would have had more offers from top teams here and abroad. With moyes we would be fighting to be top half...same as we are today. At least with benitez he knows how to win and that's invaluable.
