We got brainwashed into accepting top 7 as a great success by Bill and Moyes. He built a hard working team that wouldn't win anything and I don't believe he cared. Constant patting on his own back that we finished top half. Had 11 seasons to build a base and fair enough he did. No intention of trying to win away at Liverpool. Man Utd, Chelsea or Arsenal (knife to a gunfight) (at Man Utd we can go to these grounds and try to win).
Moyes was for stability and lauding it as successful with no intention of trying to kick on. Restricting by money but apart from the top clubs he still had some to spend compared to the rest.
Benitez for me with half the time Moyes had.

Lot of discord surrounding the appointment of our current manager and you can’t ignore the decent job our former boss is doing at West Ham… out of interest then who would you prefer here now ?
I really, really hope you're Santa @kurt, I've been a tit all year Santa but i promise to be nice if we can have Moyes back for Christmas. ??

Moyes for me was more of a non option than Benitez.

For the people who hate on benitez for his small club jibe ....... Moyes left a club who employed him for 10 years - knowing he was gone before the club did after chats with SAF - then his first mission at United was to put in paltry bids for Baines and insult Everton telling the media why we should sell to high and mighty United.

I'd sooner have gone for a credible option other than Rafael or Moyes but fully back Rafael now he's here.

Just another way of saying 'small club'.

Deffo … but it’s a valid question I think. Moyes has proved that when given time and a little backing at the right time he is quite good at fashioning a competitive team, do we give Benitez the time to do that here or would fans prefer to boot him and replace yet another manager.
The one thing Moyes proved in his 10 years is a poor approach against top sides, loves being the underdog as it lowers expectations....... He can do a great job with limited resources.

His insulting behaviour to us after he left removed any chance of him returning.

At least Benitez called us a small club out of frustration and as a manager of a rival club. That's fair game in my book, we called him fat Spanish waiter.

Moyes was effectively allowed to see out his 10 years after doing some sneaky interviews and securing the United job... Then given a grand send off - within weeks of which he was telling the media that we were out of order for not allowing Baines to join them at 50% of his market worth. Hypocrisy at its best - remember him over lescott???

For the record Baines deserves a shed load of credit for the way he conducted himself at that time.

Full respect for the hard work Moyes did with us.

I guess I didn’t appreciate that he had every player fighting for the shirt, which has been hard to replicate.

But let’s not paper over the cracks. In 12 years we made one final, bottled most big games, didn’t win a trophy and developed a mentality of fear (probably not just him, along with the board) that’s held us back for years.

I won’t forget how he went behind our back to flirt with United and acted utterly classless. So won’t get any forgiveness from me.

So, I guess Moyes got 12 years to build a team and Benitez has had 11 games and £1.5m. I’ll give him a lot more time because we can’t keep chasing people out after a couple of bad results.

I posted several thread advocating for Moyes when the manager job was vacant within the last 8 or so years. Got shot down each time, comments like Moyes is finished, people calling me a wum etc and people calling for fonseca or Sergio conceciao because apparently they have better credentials because they've won the Portuguese title once.

The job David Moyes did at Everton was exceptional. He had resources which couldn't match the top teams but were the same as the rest of the league and most seasons he would come top of that rest of the league table. He then went into a number of jobs after that where he was simply not given the time to build or was in jobs which were poison chalices like the Man Utd job.

At West ham he joined initially and kept them up but the fans didn't want him because he isn't a fashionable name so they got rid and hired pellegrini. That set them back a season, but the board knew moyes was the right guy. They took him back and now he has them exactly where we were. The best of the teams behind the so called super clubs. That's proof of what he can do. I'm not buying this bottle job mentality people give him when it comes to breaking barriers. At Everton, every time he came close to breaking the top 4 (again because he did do it once) he would lose a top player to City or elsewhere. If he had the resources we have now, then without doubt he wins something.

But.... would I prefer Moyes or Rafael. Well for me Rafael has equal credentials to Moyes. He's also a top proven manager, but will need time. He has already shown at the start of the season with the first 5 or 6 games that he can get a tune out of our best players and have us competing well and looking effective. Then he lost 4 or 5 of our best players to injury. It cannot be questioned how hard that would be to deal with considering the standard of our backup players. Rafael will need 3 transfer windows to be judged. I do fear that given the injury crisis the pressure could ramp up on him with the fixtures upcoming. But we need to stick with him and let him build a squad for the future like moyes has with west ham. I don't think I would pick one over the other between benitez and moyes, both are premier league greats and at least we have one of them at the helm now.

haha like Moyes is going to leave West Ham, to sort out the mess Carlo left behind, besides he wont have forget the way a certain section of our fan base were sad enough to abuse him

Moyes was a dinosaur before he went to WHU and relegated Sunderland with no decent track record since Everton job.

Benitez was a dinosaur, went down with Newcastle with no decent track record since the Chelsea job.

Maybe the gobshites in the fanbase should pipe down and give the fella time and see him bring HIS own players in like Moyes has done there - Soucek (£18 million) Coufal (8 million) Bowen (£17 million) Behrama (£25 million) Zouma (£25 million)

Benitez has had £1.7m to spend.

Some right mugs in our fanbase thinking any manager can do much with our squad outside of DCL, Richarlison, Doucoure, Mina, Allan, Gray in which 4 of them have been out for weeks this season leaving us with crap replacements.
Rondon a FSW signing I believe.

I had to have a peak at his record at Everton. Looking at most seasons he was an inconsistent manager. We would have spurts of winning 4 out of 5 or games then another spurt of winning just once in 9 or 10 games. This happened in a lot of his seasons with us. Took some thumpings along the way also
