Benitez is on the record of how he kept in contact with Gray in the past.and Gray?
Demarai Gray on Rafael Benitez’s radar for some time
The Everton boss exchanged messages with the winger while he lined up his next job.

I agree mate, I'm not disagreeing with Brands tenure at the club. I just find it frustrating seeing blues bend narratives to fit their agenda.I agree with most of what you say but
Brands like I have said before is a “Director” of football. What direction is the football meant to be going?
He’s been here for over 3 years and our youth teams get beat every week. There’s nobody coming through that’s noticeable.
The first teams’ squad depth is pathetic and we’ve been crying out for a right back and forward cover for good knows how long
He needs to go and go now.
I don't know why now, but the questions should be asked.Maybe, but it's the question of who is asking and why now?
A one off piece by a journo, okay.
Butwhen you get 3 or 4 pieces by writers who have close ties with individuals at the club, it raises an eyebrow.
Surely we all know the answer to "why now?"I don't know why now, but the questions should be asked.

Brands is meant to be in charge of football matters through out the clubSurely thatsn down to Unsworth?
The barsteward I've never liked the man biy iSo Benitez is responsible for:
The Titantic Sinking
Kennedy Assassination
9/11
Release of COVID-19
Lying about James wages / the moon landing
Now he's using his secret cabal of journos to force out Marcel Brands?
Im suprised the fella even has time to commute to work never mind coach the squad with such a busy schedule.
The Barsteward, I've never liked the man, but, I didn't know he'd done all that. Should be in nick if true.So Benitez is responsible for:

Lying about James wages / the moon landing

I pointed out to said BBC Sport editor that Benitez had been given full control of recruitment this summer.
Said BBC Sport editor, for some reason, took that as me insulting Benitez. Was not the case at all. I was saying it shows how the DoF structure at Everton is not in place one bit.
We've gone from giving Ancelotti the final say on transfers (turning down a £5m move for Bernard in summer 2020), to giving Benitez full control (he wanted Rondon, he insisted no offers could be accepted for Kenny at the end of the window). So we just need to stop pretending we have a functioning DoF structure, and while that should put Brands under question, it should also put the entire top of the club under question.
I agree mate, I'm not disagreeing with Brands tenure at the club. I just find it frustrating seeing blues bend narratives to fit their agenda.
I find with the issue with Everton journalists is that they currently don't want to ask questions of the club, or at least, not tough enough ones. Then you get Myers writing what he's been told (which he will have been told, btw, I have no doubt, not saying he's lying) by whichever person he still knows at the club, and you get sycophantic weirdos who are obsessed with every word he says.
Then when someone like Joyce etc writes an opinion piece, he got slated last year/the year before. Now, he did start coming across as a bit bitter, and I believe he was cut at least partially out of the loop, as were a few others who have, magically, come back very much into the loop this summer.
The one thing that really has ruined me this summer has been James' wages going up and up every week. Reputable journalists, and ones I thought would have more about them, have shown themselves up by contradicting their own reporting. Bascombe, O'Keefe, Kirkbride – they've all done this. And that has been from the club. No surprise at all that every time James was set to move or the club were looking for another avenue, his wage just miraculously went up. The 250k story from Bascombe the other day was so predictable.
As for Brands, I don't think anyone knows what he does now. He wasn't getting the final say on any transfers this summer, that's for sure, and the deals that did get done, well it looks very much like Benitez was the driving force to the extent that I don't even think we can be certain if Brands was involved in anything more than some salary negotiations.
We didn't really though did we.we made the money back on Kean at least but you are right this is a horrific transfer record
There would have been a loan fee with psg and juve and it's not like we would have paid the whole fee initially to juve we certainly wouldn't be making a loss on Kean ,for me if Kean was committed I would have kept him instead of a 32 year old on a 2 + 1 dealWe didn't really though did we.
We will have paid most of his wages for 4 years and only got 1 year of sub appearances from him.
It has been a horrific deal like most of Brands' work here.
I'm really not sure any system works when we are changing managers every 18 months or soI am a firm believer in the DOF system, it gives stability, if used correctly, the DOF makes all the football decisions including transfers and appointing the first team coach.
While I am all in favour of this system, I don't want Brands to be the man who we trust with that power.
