But that has stopped us from being able to move in the transfer market due to FFP.

James is (allegedly) on £150k a week and not playing. An issue granted.

But when you've also got players on 90-100k a week -
Gomes
Sigurdsson
Delph
Keane
Allan
Mina
Digne

A chunk aren't good enough. 3 of them aren't playing. We can't sell them (no one will pay the wages), so they do more damage in terms of being able to rebuild.

If we had just the one James-style issue, it would be manageable. We don't. We have a number who aren't worth the wages

and we've pushed out the one player who is worth the wages in a desperate fashion, and managed to get the fanzine writers to make out like he was the issue all along

Pretty bizarre that he was hawked around Europe in the summer only to be ending up in Qatar...
Teams in Europe have been hit by the pandemic and can't afford his wage. As good as he is, with his injury record, no team can afford that wage unless it's been subsidised.

So we looked at the Porto deal but they pulled the plug anyway. We then tried Istanbul and subsidised his wage but he didn't want to go to Turkey.

The plus side with Qatar for James is the World Cup. Make no bones about it. It's a massive deal for football in that country and in Asia to have a player like this going there. So he's going to be the de facto face of Qatari football in the year leading up to the World Cup. And Mendes will have sold that to him. That's better for his chances of playing for Colombia than playing in Turkey is, btw, and anyone who thinks otherwise is extremely naive to how football politics works.

Doesn't change the fact that Everton have been desperate for this to happen, so much so that we're letting a brilliant player leave when we can't replace him for 3 months and our attackers who are currently fit would make a relegation candidate blush

thats what happens when recruitment is so poor!

Yeah but at the same time mate you see other clubs selling players who offer nothing or have no reputation within football for plenty of money.

Our problem is we have handed out large contracts to players who don't deserve them and they are then not willing to drop their wage demands in the next club.

And continuing to sign players on wages like that ie rondon.
