Benitez is missing a massive trick here. If he's so convinced James is a liability, put him on the pitch and let him prove it. Tonight would have been ideal as we were already seriously depleted. We'd probably have lost just as badly in the end and he could have cut Rodriguez permanently as a consequence. Instead, people will rightly ask why the player was not even on the bench when we had so many out. The optics are transparently poor even for those who recognise the manager's right to make his own decisions.
