Everton Summer transfers 2021

I still don't understand?

What is it you think Brands hasn't stood up for himself/made sufficient opposition to Moshiri over?

Allardyce was before Brands was here. Allardyce was the decision of the previous DoF, Steve Walsh.

Benitez? Why is your assumption that Moshiri wanted him and Brands didn't? He ticks every Brands box in terms of profile (Brands appointed Martin Jol/Ronald Koeman/Advocaat a few times) - Brands if on record repeatedly of talking up the benefit of experience in managers and Brands has publicly endorsed Benitez.

When we sign Ben Godfrey or Lucas Digne - who was that?

When we sign Fabian Delph or Josh King - who was that?

When we made daft bids for Zaha, and then sign Iwobi - who was that?

Do we pick and choose who we credit and who we blame? Or do we just accept that every transfer who comes in ultimately got Brands thumbs up?
All signings carry risk, all managers/DOF get a lot right and get some horribly wrong. If they are lucky they can move on their mistakes and retrieve some of the damage.

Their is no point trying to allocate credit or blame for individual signings because we simply don't know who the main driver was for most... there are a few where it became clear who proposed the transfer e.g Godfrey and Doucoure. But, they probably would still not have happened if CA objected.

The argument that Brands does not pick the manager is an attempt to diminish the role in the club whereas the reality seems to be that he is at the very core of everything that is happening, even a director in a couple of companies including the one building the stadium.

Even though the Ancelotti episode finished badly I think Kenwright/Brands/Moshiri/Usmanov saw that for most of the season it worked well, money was largely well spent and I think they may have wanted to try to replicate that.

Correa can play number 10 and our wide too. I'd imagine he'd be considered as a replacement for James.

Richarlison - DCL - Correa as a front 3 is pretty exciting.
Oh nice.

Did a quick Google and saw forward.

If he's a number 10 then James looks likely to be off. We could be covering our bases then

me rn, waiting for us to do something

That aside, I assume we'll have our gaping holes in our squad exposed in 3 days, so it should put a bit of fire under brands and co, i'd hope
May as well get back in the coffin until deadline day

I'd honestly just go and get Dalot now. I think he would be more reasonable and is used to the league, wouldn't even have to move far. Even if we get Dumfries, which is a big if given Inter are sniffing around, he is going to have very little preseason.

So if Everton are lying, and Marcel Brands isn't responsible for transfers (or has the upper hand, whatever the hell that means)... who is signing Godfrey, Doucoure and co?

All Moshiri then is it?

Sound, let's credit Moshiri with Digne, Richarlison and co when we also credit him with Iwobi.

….I very much doubt Moshiri is involved at that level.

I’m sure Brands brought the likes of Doucoure & Godfrey in, not to mention those brought in earlier. I also think he is the conduit with the Board and manages the spend envelope.

I just wonder, though, if the power of veto is being exercised more by Benitez. Also, I wonder if Brands is a bit more reluctant to use his veto. All conjecture, of course.

I‘m not sure if this ’veto’ arrangement is in place at other clubs. I’m not against it as it makes sense for the Manager/DoF to be on the same page, but it does mean a strong willed Manager can virtually refuse any DoF generated deals.

What would be the managers motivation for doing that?

Besides, they've already brought in three players.

A quote from Brands a few years back;

“I would never bring in a player that the coach is not looking for or does not want to work with,” director of football Marcel Brands said in April. “The opposite will also not happen. If Marco likes a player but I don’t think he would fit in with the philosophy of the club or think he is not the right choice, too old or whatever it is. We both have to agree.” He and Marco Silva come to a unanimous decision, informed by chief scout Kevin Reeves and chief European scout Gretar Steinsson, then Brands works his negotiating magic.

Nobody has a clue anymore about Everton transfers.

Not even sure anyone at Everton knows who we want...

Which is the precise reason the Director of Football model has failed us - specifically why Brands has.

The role is supposed to provide certainty; it's done anything but.

He should be sacked, put bluntly.

I think they've given clarity and certainty. I mean, the quotes I've repeatedly shared from when Brands was promoted to the board leaves no doubt.

It's just fans choose to not believe it.

If it's a trendy, fashionable name - Brands wants him.
If it's someone we don't like - Moshiri spotted him on football manager.
I think the problem is it’s clear ancelotti bought a couple , possible silva did richarlison and certainly Benitez bought Townsend so clearly the managers get their way at least some of the time so the lines of demarcation can become blurred and the others don’t always seem part of an overall strategy leading to the speculation You mentioned.
