Everton Summer transfers 2021

Baffles me this view. You're not convinced Brands ever had power/accountability over transfers?!

As I've said earlier, we paid a few bob for Ben Godfrey who Ancelotti admitted he hadn't heard of. (Ancelotti wanted Gabriel Magalhães). Who made that Ben Godfrey signing?!

And there's no chance Ancelotti was arguing to bring in Doucoure who Brands wanted long before Ancelotti arrived. Who made that signing?

Amazing how the view of "Poor Marcel Brands, he isn't allowed to do his job" continues. If his name was Mark Brands and he didn't look the part - indeed if he looked like Steve Walsh - he'd never get that treatment.

The fella has been here since 2018 and since January 2019, when he was promoted to the board;

Our approach now is to have a Director of Football with a broader remit, responsible for the whole footballing strategy at the Club, rather than just player recruitment.

"Marcel is now responsible, and accountable, for delivering the long-term, holistic, football strategy and principles, from Academy through to the first team.
“Marcel has now begun his work on delivering the cub’s long-term, permanent football strategy, working closely with the Academy Director (Joel Waldron) and Head of Football Strategy (Richard Battle).”

Very clear.

Credit him with the good, as well as the bad.
Where did I say he never had any input into any signings? I said I'm not convinced he's had the upper hand in signings and I stand by that view.

When was that statement I highlighted made? As you say, Brands has been here over 3 years and it's only now that I can see the effect he is having on the academy and U23s. Up until 6 months ago they were all doing their own thing, which gave no bearance to the way the first team were playing. And I'm pretty sure he's had little or no input into the selection of the last 3 managers. They were Moshiri's choice.

That statement is in fact exactly what I was hoping for when Brands was appointed. I supported that appointment then and I still support Brands now and yes, I do feel that he isn't allowed to do the job that statement outlines, and that includes not having the control over the signing of new players that he would like to have.

me rn, waiting for us to do something

That aside, I assume we'll have our gaping holes in our squad exposed in 3 days, so it should put a bit of fire under brands and co, i'd hope

….yep, I often post similar. The DoF has to be accountable for all signings.

The increasing doubt I have with Brands is whether he has the upper hand anymore when it comes to bringing players in.
I'm not convinced he ever had it Eggs. Certainly not under Ancelotti or Benitez, and questionable under Silva.

So if Everton are lying, and Marcel Brands isn't responsible for transfers (or has the upper hand, whatever the hell that means)... who is signing Godfrey, Doucoure and co?

All Moshiri then is it?

Sound, let's credit Moshiri with Digne, Richarlison and co when we also credit him with Iwobi.

I don’t believe that I think he is heavily involved in bringing in the players. I just don’t think he is very good at his job.
Fair enough. I think he is but he just isn't allowed to do it. At least half of the players brought in under his watch have been down to the managers, and a lot of the players he has been trying to offload were purchased and given silly contracts before he came in. I think he's had an uphill battle to change the old boy network of the club and having to deal with an owner who interferes too much.

There are signs that he is now starting to influence the academy side of things, but the appointment of Benitez will be a set back for him as he will undoubtedly want to do things his own way, as did Ancelotti before him.
