We spent a lot of money on crap and now we can’t spend any more because we can’t shift the crap. Mid table will be where we reside for the foreseeable future while we try and get our house in order.
That's a horrible position to be in. When Bruce was our manager he spent a lot on crap and then the rest were loans. We were then left in a really bad position and came so close to administration. It takes quite a few years to get all the crap off the payroll.
Having too many crap players on big money probably adds some sense to Rafael's appointment. I really didn't think it would happen, even when the media said it was close. But, Rafael will be very safe at keeping the ship afloat while u get rid of the crap and get yourselves into a position to move forward

Most will be gone in 12 months, one possibly earlier.

But trouble is, the manager seems to want to punt the decent ones.

I am not a fan of your manager. There was talk of him coming to Villa and I was very against it. I am still in a bit of disbelief he is Everton manager after what he said. I thought that was a red line he would never come back from. Sort of like saying Jose could become manager of them across the park. But, he is there now and I suppose u have to support him and give him the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully he does well for you and buys some decent players. The talk of selling Mina and James sounds a bit crazy unless u get top dollar for them and can improve the squad.

You guys certainly sound very disillusioned. I consider Everton a big-spending club with lots of potential. From a rivalry perspective I have always been happy that you don't seem to be able to get the right manager in place. I see Everton as a club that Villa is able to catch up on and compete but imo, if u had the right manager then I think u would pull away and make that very difficult.
Regarding transfers, I can't believe that you will not sign a few big players this window, I expect to see some quality added which just makes our catchup that little bit too difficult next season
‘From a rivalry perspective’

Interesting.

And I like your club.
Some of my fondest memories are at your ground in the mid 80’s.

You're using transfermarkt though which doesn't calculate positions properly.

For example in this game I watched he replaced Zlatan so transfermarkt shows it ST for a ST but he actually went LW and Diaz played false 9. Happens a lot (like Krunic did not play LW in that game at all).

Good website but not always accurate.

When we bought Kean, we were being linked with Leao beforehand. Every highlight package you could find of him he was playing up front.

I accept he's mostly played from the left at Milan.

We'll sign a few - best to egnore the pessimism everyones upset we have an ex Liverpool manager in the dugout.

Dumfries & McNeil the main names apparently in talks and the Nunes lad from Sporting Lisbon.

Will likely lose Rodriguez to Fund them but not that fussed as he's too injury prone and not suited to Benitez's system or Ancelotti's towards the end of last season truth be told when we have less of the ball than the opposition.

Players we've signed so far - Townsend on a free is decent replacement for Walcott - 5-6 assists last season will link up well with DCL. Gray for £1.5 million is also shrewd business - pace to burn and its a win win - he does well and buckles down then we have a bargain or if he does crap we can still likely sell for a profit.

Townsend and Gray are virtually risk free and give some width and some crosses for DCL which is much needed. Gray had a lovely assist in your friendly in Florida, if he can repeat that in the PL it will be a bargain and it will also piss Birmingham City off big time :celebrate:

yeah you don't have to be a blue to see that Benitez was a mistake from the off.

I suspect we were hoping for the Grealish money but until it is signed there are no guarantees. He could fail a medical and if we have gone way over FFP then we would be fcuked so I can't really see us spending too much before he sells. He did miss 3 months last season and he missed 3 months the year we got promoted. I don't think he has ever played a full season for us. I suspect we are flying very very close to FFP threshold but I also think our CEO knows how to manage FFP. Saying all that, if we do manage to take 100m from City then our finances will be looking a lot better

Yeah I just meant in the kind of way it's all but a guarantee that you'll get some big money for him (however big it is) so that can be used to help offset what you're spending now if needed.

Made some good signings but if he does go, Grealish will obviously be a big miss.

Just FYI btw, no swears on this side of the forum ;)

Good job we've not got someone partly responsible for bringing that crap on a new deal
