I mean most have been large lately.

to be fair we are playing a team who are midway through their season and are used to these conditions, this is our first real game, we've done okay considering.

I'm not complaining, mate. I fully get that they are ahead of us in match fitness and being better climatised to the hot conditions. I was just pointing out that we seem to have a certain way of playing no matter who is in charge, it's almost like muscle memory or some sort of subconscious 'failsafe'.
