It's even weirder if you believe the narrative that Nuno was Paratici's choice. Something doesn't quite add up there. I think Levy can't quite help himself and has already undermined his DoF.

Id have expected an Italian manager to come in...failing Conte and Gattuso there mustnt have been another open to the move.

Going from Juventus recruitment to Spurs as well...going to be a challenge for the DOF.
 

Romero is a ridiculously amazing CB, funny how Spurs are buying him, their new DoF actually did a stupid thing selling him to Atalanta for very cheap when Juve loaned him to them previously, was becoming one of the worst pieces of business done in Italy in recent times.

I don't see Romero being at Spurs long, he'll be a top 3 best CB in the World soon, he has Real Madrid bound on him, Spurs will flip him for a decent profit in 2 years time.

Seems to be the new thing now in European football.

Letting players in the 30's leave for free or cheaply, it's a definite sea change now in football, not sure if it's pandemic related or copying off American sports where letting contracts run down is the norm for players in the 30's instead of signing them to another deal that gets worse every year of the contract, in theory you are saving money and diverting that potential contract money to a younger replacement.

Spurs get a massive contract off the books that had 2 years left where he just turned 32 recently.

I think it's a bi-product of FFP actually. People are searching for appreciating assets and increasingly moving on ones tat have little value. Given the PL is a very high spend league, there is enormous pressure to justify today's signings with growth tomorrow.

In a lot of whats it gives a strategic advantage to European teams, who have that bit more flexibility (coming from selling players for good fees above their book value) and can get some very cheap deals for players who while perhaps past their best still have a lot to offer.
