Confirmed Signing Demarai Gray

He's basically the winger equivalent of Tom Davies. Reasonably young and English and never lived up to his potential.
I didn't mean to like that, but I am so hopeful and optimistic in Summer , that I fully expect Gray to be the new Kanchelskis, and TD to morph into a Reid-Bracewell hybrid

This is Demari Gray....

Comes on as sub with 15 minutes to go, looks bright and troubles tiring defenders, without ever really creating or scoring.

There is a bit of a clamour for them to start because of those sub appearances, and he does absolutely nothing and doesn't even look bright.

He drops down to the bench again.

You play a championship or league one team, and he looks like a combination of Ronaldo and Messi rolled into one.

There is a bit of a clamour for him to start because of that appearance, and he does absolutely nothing and doesn't even look bright.

Once in a while he'll do something amazing in a game, people will forget that whenever he starts he rarely does anything. There will be a bit of a clamour for him to start, and he'll do absolutely nothing.

The fans will all grow frustrated as him never seemingly being able to fulfil his talent, but you'll sit and watch fans of other teams acting like he's Ronaldo and Messi rolled into one, because they saw him rinse Peterborough in the cup.

Gray will start posting cryptic posts on social media, hinting at everyone else is at fault for him not getting more game time.

The manager will also grow frustrated and it will look like he'll be on his way out of the club. Then your manager will get sacked, and the new manager will think he's Ronaldo and Messi rolled into one, because they saw him rinse Peterborough in the cup.

Then you start the whole sorry process once again.

For what you've paid it's fine, worth a shot, but I wouldn't expect that much.

To be fair, we don't have anyone off the bench who troubles the opposition. Our subs make the tiring defenders look bright, and are sideways, backwards specialists, so this is an underrated signing :)

I think the fee is artificially low. He was in the last few months when he moved to Germany, and then only on an 18 month contract. Probably more like an £8-10m player.

So you think if we sign him then we could instantly sell him for £8-10mil ?

Thus pocketing a tidy £6.5-8.5mil profit...

Or sell a little cheaper at say £6mil and quadruple our investment?

That is one vivid dream...

If we signed him for £15m the same people slating him would now be calling it signing of the season. Our fanbase is getting worse

Thats a bizarre thought process.

And get a brain.... we are talking about the lad who nearly walked into the rotors of our late owner's helicopter.

Begovic: Rumoured to be a 1 year deal
--Signs a 1 year deal, experienced backup.

Townsend: Rumoured to be a 1 year deal
--Signs a 2 year deal, experienced backup but should really have been 1 year + a club option to extend.

Gray: Rumoured 2 year deal + 1 year option
--Should be nowhere near the club and now its mooted that its a 3 year deal + 1 year club option.
Illogical, stupid and disappointing

Everything youve written about him ive heard from others as well...now to top it off hes flopped in Germany for a team which uses wingers and where he should shine.

Whoever signed this off (Benitez) shouldnt be working in football.

1 year deals for the three of them would have made some sense...2 and 3 year deals are just adding to our deadwood.

Have you thought about offering your services as a consultant? I think Moshiri, Brands, et al will really appreciate your candour.

Should be able to make a profit on Gray. Townsend should be 1 plus 1.

….so much power is with the players in the modern game. It’s all good and well wanting short-term deals but you’re unlikely to to find players willing to sign them, especially if they are in demand.

Also worth noting that there is really no such thing as a free transfer these days. A player running down his contract does mean no transfer fee is involved, but it also means a very lucrative signing fee and salary going direct to the player involved. I’d be very surprised if Townsend isn’t receiving a 6 figure signing fee and bigger salary than at Palace.

Similarly, I expect Gray is demanding a longer deal and decent salary because he’s being allowed to leave on the cheap.

1 year prove it deals are a very American/ NFL idea. Not many used in football

If you have a reclamation / development project in Gray, which is what he is, and he shows signs of promise then we don’t want him leaving or being in the last 12 months of his contract in a years time. The board would be criticised at that point for not giving him a longer contract

Will you please stop inserting common sense answers into this thread, set up only to determine the player is no good. For heavens sake, you'll be giving a new player a chance soon, how utterly mind-blowing.

Well, for some on here anyway.

Should be able to make a profit on Gray. Townsend should be 1 plus 1.

Leverkusen are making a loss on him by punting him to us. We cant magically make a profit on a poor player.

Weve tried that with all the dross were currently trying to offload.

Gray hasnt been allowed to particularly "leave on the cheap" though mate...thats his market value as determined by what Leverkusen paid Leicester (€3mil) and him flopping in Germany.

Youre right though, when you add up the 3 signings wages over their contracts + signing on fees and bonuses...it will be tens of millions.

1 year deals are quite common in football though.

Many experienced players sign 1 year deals and many players looking for an opportunity will sign a 1 year deal with a club option for a 2nd.

Just not at Everton.
