2020/21 Bernard

He simply isn't strong enough for this league and doesn't have the trickery to help him out. Signing him on a free was worth the gamble if we get a decent fee for him.

It was fun buying Bernard - with Gomes and Digne. On paper looked like some amazing transfers. He lined up in that infamous Brazil WC final didnt he, and definitely must have been good in the past. Sometimes a change revives players, sometimes it doesnt. Wish a manager had managed to get the best out of him!

The math was fantastic. Brands should always roll those dice at that price. In on a free, out at a price, pay three years of wages? The math comes out to a player on half a wage providing depth if Brands fails to hit his number before rolling a seven, or rolls 2, 3 or 12 right off the bat. If he hits a 7 or 11 on the first roll, it's a massive win. The whole thing is such a no-brainer.

It's one of the reasons I have more respect for Brands than a lot of people seem to have.

I don't see how we get any more than £5m for him though, and thats a stretch, no? How can we show anything to future employers to drive up his price?

Utterly lightweight. My abiding memory of Bernard will be of him bouncing off Manuel Neuer in the 7-1 World Cup semi-final when the German bent down to gather a ball and still flattened the Brazilian who emerged with a childish grin looking even smaller than his diminutive frame.
I think his size had got people to ignore that he's just not very good. He wasn't poor just because he wasn't very tall. And players like Silva and Mata who weren't bigger to the point of it mattering were great. If he was good he'd have been big enough.

We don't have to in order to have the whole thing be a veteran on a kid's salary, adjusted by the transfer fee.

We never did. That's the beauty of the math.

Obvious dice roll is obvious.

Bernard is apparently on £120k a week.

Thats £6.24mil a year or £18.72mil for the 3 seasons hes been here for.

Ignoring Agent fees and his signing bonus.

How have you equated this to "being on a kids salary adjusted by the lack of transfer fee"?

How is paying £18 m in wages for a player who produced nothing in his time here good business or in your words "the math was fantastic " ?

He is a child trying to play with men. He isnt able to run without falling over his feet.Surely the most laughable transfer in Evertons history.
