The walking / hiking thread

I'm not sure I've seen one on GOT. Cycling and running, yes. Walking/hiking, I think we lack.

So anyway, a place to share and discuss kit, great trails and routes and so forth.

Part of the reason for starting it is I'm looking for hiking shoe tips. Currently wearing Saloman X ultra 3s. Very good grip, fit and waterproofing but my heel aches after wearing. Other recommendations?

Haystacks and Great Gable, starting with an easy walk around the shores of the beautiful Buttermere.

Also blessed with two cracking pubs / hotels at the beginning / end .

Walk on tip toes

I am currently wearing Salomon XA pro 3D trail shoes which are great but I also use my adidas terrex boots for more challenging walks

Did Ten Tors, 35 and 45 mile ones, back in the day. Kin loved it.

I expect the kit has changed since then mind. Gaiters, hiking boots, strong kagule (still have it 40 years later), all your kit inc food, tent, stove spare clothes etc etc all crammed into a large rucksack that weighed a ton!

Compass reading a team of six across the Brecons in zero visibility and snow was fun.

You want a pair of these - Adidas Terrex.

I’d always walked in conventional walking boots ( Zamberlan ) until my mate put me onto these.

Super light, instantly comfy, grippy and the GTX are waterproof.

One of the best bits of kit I’ve ever bought.

I do this. Don't know that my tips on trails to pick are going to do you much good.

I'll defer to you all on shoe tips, as I currently need a pair. Need one with a wide toe box. The rest usually sorts itself out, as far as I go.

Adidas Terrex boots are the business.

Sound. I tend to swerve proper boots until winter or really challenging terrain. Trails I find the shoes much more appropriate.

Thats like comparing the boots I wore to Roger Bannisters trainers with Usain Bolts ffs!
