A DM receiving the ball off a centreback without having to run to a yard in front of him before the CB had the confidence to play it would also be nice.

I mean if we can bail Holgate for decent money I would be happy to bring in another CB.

So many basic but nice things in football we aren’t able to see.

Like a RB who can cross or a RW who actually beats his man even if it is just with raw pace.

I tend to agree here.

A DM who actually receive the ball turn and move and pass further than 5 yards would be superb.

People talk about adding in other positions but it seems totally pointess to me until we improve the qualtity at the back.

Defensively we should improve but it should also massively impact our attacking play as well.

If we dont sell Keane then were absolutely stupid. How can you build a winning team with an Oaf like an anchor weighing the defence down to play deep every game?

Can we get some mid-fielders in who can score? I read a scary stat earlier:
Allison has scored more goals this season than most of our mid-fielders. How pathetic is that?

Allan: 0 goals
Gomes: 0 goals
Davies: 0 goals
Doucoure: 3 goals
Delph: 0 goals
Gbamin*: 0 goals

All but one of our 'traditional' CM's are yet to score this season. That's a combined 126 games in all competitions and just 3 goals.

Say the same for Mina.

I dont mind Keane so much really, but I agree, his lack of pace has an affect on the whole tactics. (Just like having no pace upfront changes your tactics). Pace is everything in the game now with how athletic these players are.

Remember David Weir? Can't think of a slower player for us but read the game well and when we finished 4th it worked as we were very defensive and grinded out wins. Imagine trying to play attacking football with him and stubbs?

Doesn't mean Keane's a bad footballer, because he isn't and his passing out has actually been much improved as the stats proved at one point, but his lack of pace hurts us tactically.

That's just downright embarrassing. Apart from the start of the season, our midfield has been a joke all season - doesn't offer anything.

...it’s a very good comparison with Weir, Andy. We emphasise Keane’s lack of pace & mobility and you rightly point out some players can overcome weaknesses with application and attitude.

Keane’s problem is he’s also mentally fragile. He’s capable at the top of his game but he’s weak at the other end of his spectrum. He can be easily bullied & becomes hesitant & uncertain. Mina is slow & immobile but he’s strong and has attitude, I’d much prefer him over a number of games.

it’s ok @Zatara saying we need to sell Keane but somebody has to want to buy him. Even if somebody does submit an unlikely bid, it has to meet our valuation & even then the player has to be prepared to give up a big bucks contract for whatever is on offer elsewhere.

I’m not surprised there are clubs linked to Mina. I suspect he’s the one most likely to leave.

Ill say it again but if they arent willing to take a bid of around £15m+ add ons, id be pushing to take Gilmour on loan from Romans army, Tuchel cant find a place for him atm and theyll probably spend again in the summer.
Be a no brainer on either loan or signing for me.
Young, hungry, we are a few hundred miles closer to home for the kid.. whats not to like

I don’t like the fact we’re taking a Chelsea player on loan, that’s not ready for them. So he comes and learns at Everton and any mistakes costs us not them.

It’s clubs like Norwich or West Brom/Newcastle who have Arsenal youngsters on loan. We shouldn’t be doing it. We’re trying to challenge Chelsea.
would Spurs or Arsenal take Gilmore or even Leicester

Agree. If I had a choice Keane would be the CB we sell and I'd keep Mina. I think Mina is the better defender in every way aside from being injury prone. That's also why I imagine it would be much easier to sell Mina rather than Keane. I don't think Keane is awful, but he does lose confidence easily, and is not mobile enough to do anything but sit on the edge of our box. Mina is most likely to fetch a good price in my opinion, but I won't be heartbroken no matter who we sell. We need funds to rebuild this disaster of a squad.

Out of interest, how many goals have the rs midfield got?

Not saying our midfield aren't poor, but I'd be interested to know as I feel like our formation doesn't lend itself to the midfield 3 scoring many goals.

EDIT: Just checked and it is as bad as ours.
