Champions League revamp

I saw an interesting tweet that said these clubs call themselves the "biggest" based on what revenue they make and viewers.

But they also have the biggest debts, the biggest wage bills, and pay the biggest fees. They're also the ones that have been hit the biggest by COVID.

So instead of saying, "how do we adjust to compensate this overspending that put us in this position" they've gone "we need more money".

It doesn't solve their underlying financial issues, it just keeps them afloat.

Son is pretty much a national hero in S.Korea.

His sponsorships would go up in smoke if he wasnt playing in internationals.

'Becks' / 'Rio' and others wouldnt have had Japanese fans (a huge amount of them) so sponsorships would have dropped in at least that market.

Individually World Cup winners from France/Spain etc wouldnt have been gaining certain sponsorships...

Remember, a huge number of Asian fans follow players due to them first seeing them in internationals and then following the teams they play for.

No internationals = less exposure for players = less money / fans.

Shots fired....

...no, thats a cannonball fired at Anfield.
So it's still about money . I was thinking about it in terms of prestige and such .
I'm an old fool .
Great points . Thank you .

The last part of that presser was bizarre.. he just kinda went off on one about how UEFA and the Prem are always about their own interests anyway lol

Listening to that brought a lump to my throat.. or I have COVID... but calling out FFP too.. he will have (and deservedly) elevated his standing with all fans.. Everton again at the forefront of decency and community. Never change Everton!
Really liked that part where he called our FFP. He illustrated that all these teams already have a massive unfair advantage in that FFP protects their wealth by ensuring other clubs can't spend to catch up. Makes the six look all the more greedy for trying to now break away and close shop.

My grandad always used to say that Arsenal were the biggest team in the south and Everton were the biggest team in the north and everyone else couldn’t match the pedigree of those two. No idea if he was right or not but no way Spurs Liverpool or United were bigger than us before the 60s.
Those clubs you’ve mentioned there were known as The Big Five in the 60’s & much of the 70’s, iirc.

And The People’s Club in a previous life?
The Mersey Millionaires lol

I hate them but the match going Reds, for the most part, have backed us

Some haven't, and they're scabs

Socialist in the sheets, but Tories really, are the Crimson Fear

Most "proper" fans of any club will be against this. Call the scabs legacy fans and see if they click on. Such one eyedness is hard to fix though.

Radio Caroline operated in international waters...well, outside the 3mile limit at least...and the Govt couldn't touch them.
So they amended the law in a roundabout manner that effectively shut them down
If the political will...aka, it's a vote winner or they think the law is being shown to be ineffective or whatever - it will be done.

You would imagine if contracts are signed etc that the super league would take the Government to the high court.

I just cant see the ESL not checking loopholes before doing this.

What drugs are they on that they haven't had meetings with players and managers to see if they are onside. This is batshid crazy. They have it all set up yet the players, managers and fans are all against it. By far the weirdest period in football history.
This whole thing feels like a panic move. I think some of these ‘giants’ are close to going under. It’s the only thing that explains how much this has been bungled.
