Champions League revamp

Lol no one will watch them or play for them.

You think fans will stop watching their team, and walk away from watching the game that means everything to them?

You think Top players will walk away from massive lucrative new deals to play in the richest competition in sport, and instead opt to play in the minor leagues?

My rs supporting cousin is just as aghast at this as anyone else. Although he's a rare one in that he's successful in his own right and doesn't need a football club to give his life meaning.

If Everton had done this i'd give up on the club.

I think fans will form new clubs like 'FC United of Manchester' and they'd have the fans on side and be at the top again jumping through the leagues.

That's the only way to kill this before it even starts.

Regardless, I'm not going to be spending a single minute watching a European Super League, nor am I going to spend a single penny on it. It just doesn't interest me.

For me, it all stopped being proper football years ago, and I'd hope this would be a catalyst for things to reset themselves
I agree, it would bore me. Would be too expensive to subscribe too as well I reckon. The players will want even more money which means subscriptions would cost a fortune. I wouldn’t watch if it was free. The only reason I watch the CL games occasionally is because it’s not on that often. I’m not sure these clubs understand that. The novelty would soon fade If it was on every week.

Fifa have said they will ban any players who play in this new league from any other football, domestically and international.
Your call super rich footballers.

Fifa with their high levels of ethics?

You ban the top players from the World Cup and Euros, and the sponsors quickly lose interest....FIFA just want their share of the money

It will be interesting to see whether clubs like FC United get a bounce in attendance figures when fans are allowed back.

I hope so.

Not sure what your question Mark about FIFA ethics meant, who said they had any ethics

Uefa / Premier League can threaten them all they want, but we all know as soon as the clubs flutter their eyelashes again, they'll be welcomed back with open arms.

The PL has an almost symbiotic relationship with the likes of United, Liverpool, Arsenal etc. Even Chelsea and City came to prominence under the PL's structure- initially spoiling the party but they are now fully fledged members of Sky's chosen clubs. Sky and the PL will not give up on these clubs. They will appear to look tough but behind the scenes they will be buttering them up and placating to them as much as possible.

The former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson led criticism of the new proposals, telling Reuters that a Super League would be “a move away from 70 years of European club football”.

“Everton are spending £500m to build a new stadium with the ambition to play in Champions League. Fans all over love the competition as it is,” he said. “In my time at United, we played in four Champions League finals and they were always the most special of nights.”
