Champions League revamp

I really think if they've signed papers on this they should be expelled by the end of business tomorrow and the RS should be out before the Leeds game even kicks off.
Yeah if they have formally agreed to join this league then there have to be sanctions. At the very least there should be an ultimatum. Pull out of the European league or withdraw from the Premier league.

You can only appease for so long. If they have signed up then there have to be consequences.

From the BBC

“The European governing body released a joint statement together with the English Football Association, Premier League Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), La Liga, and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) as well as Serie A on Sunday.

They said they will "remain united" in trying to stop the breakaway, using both judicial and sporting measures if required.

They also reiterated Fifa's stance that players taking part in the Super League would be banned from all other competitions at domestic, European or world level and could be prevented from representing their national teams”
That's the only way to kill this before it even starts.

Regardless, I'm not going to be spending a single minute watching a European Super League, nor am I going to spend a single penny on it. It just doesn't interest me.

For me, it all stopped being proper football years ago, and I'd hope this would be a catalyst for things to reset themselves

The only people truly in favour of this:
1.The directors and stakeholders of the clubs involved
2. TV companies
3. Betting companies
4. Advertisers
5. RS fans

The odds will be too tight for betting firms.

Advertisers would lose the european market and probably the south american market day 1.

Its centred on US market and possibly China.

No you don't understand. We don't want them liquidated, but if the alternative is meekly allowing this to go ahead then the destruction of six clubs is preferable to the destruction of the entire game.
It's clearly not going to go ahead. We can get into a separate discussion about the merits of certain clubs fans, but this is purely driven by owners who are so out of touch with reality that they had no idea of the backlash that was coming there way from this. Or they did, and it was leaked for a specific reason/ulterior motive. OR they're so arrogant, they just don't care. I guess we'll find out later tonight.

The fan backlash from this will be enough to nip it in the bud. These clubs would be stone dead if something like this went ahead. That doesn't mean I don't agree with the domestic leagues issuing out sanctions. I'm just stating that the fans of these clubs, some of whom will have been around supporting their clubs for 40/50 years don't deserve to be lumped in with the owners because they're a part of the same club. I know you're arguing that a stand needs to be made so those fans will essentially have to cop for it, but there are other solutions to this. Banning the players from any other competition as has been put forward being a great starting point. But it is absolutely naive to think there wouldn't be massive issues with the PL if these teams were no longer in it. Yes, I'm sure in time things would balance out (maybe even for the better depending on your opinion) but the idea these clubs could just be kicked out of the league and everything is rosy for the start of next season or even the next few seasons is laughable. The financial implications alone are huge. It's almost too big an issue to get in to.

Of course if they really have signed a letter of intent...well, there isn't an easy way to come back from that.

My rs supporting cousin is just as aghast at this as anyone else. Although he's a rare one in that he's successful in his own right and doesn't need a football club to give his life meaning.

No chance - they'll backtrack as normal and UEFA will alter the new CL format to have said clubs in for eternity.

UEFA will bend over backwards to keep them in their competition.

The sticking point in the CL revamp is bringing back co-efficent points to keep the big names in the competition regardless of domestic league finish. It's why it was delayed from last month cos a lot of clubs refused.
