Swap the names, That could just as easily be Gomez and Iwobi too. That's scary!!! we have at least three players who really do very little on a regular basis.

If I told you that you could have a thirty-something player that would give you a year's contribution on a three-year deal at the salary of a just-promoted youth player, and would serve as cover for the remaining two, you'd 100% take that player on a free. That's effectively what's happened here if that sale goes through.

I wish that people would quit setting the bar for him at the same level as big money signings like Richarlison and Sigurdsson.

He is one of the highest earners and was not brought in as cover. Yes he was free, that does not detract from the fact he was brought in to do more than "cover" badly

Respectfully, that's not what happened here.

You could make the same argument about James as he's on a free. All about contractual status here. He was brought in as a first teamer. He's been okay at times, but never truly proved essential.

A shame, its happening all too often in recent times no matter the fee.

Regardless of how well- or poorly suited he is to the PL, people who think he's a poor player are blinkered dum-dums. If he's keen to move to La Liga I hope he gets the opportunity. I'm sad it hasn't worked out for him here.

Despite everything - inconsistencies, injuries, ineffectiveness - I wish he had the opportunities that Siggy had to play in the middle. We are carrying Siggy anyway, he's not tackling, tracking or adding physical presence in the middle, so why not Bernard as no.10 or a floating attacker and as the back up for James. It's all too late now, but It looks like that infamous Brazil campaign when they were battered and he started in the disastrous final, has really affected him long-term and he never recovered. Shame, and we rated him highly enough to pay him £100k a week, it's sad it never worked out for him. In any case, hope he does better somewhere else! We always feel worse for seemingly nice guys, but he's another who might need a nice place where he feels at home, or USA to get his game back.
