ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

It's worth stating Upemecano is seen as a significant upgrade on Konate too.

That seems to be a raging debate - i'm obviously limited in my viewing of the two, but I would certainly be of the opinion Konate looks the far better individual when he is on the pitch. For me the key point is the "when", that injury record is dreadful, I realise many put it down to one single issue (hip abductor) which is essentially growing pains, but it seems a risk given the injury profile he would be joining

We discussed Danny Ings a while ago as a back up option & my point was the key asset a back up needs is availability, the same surely applies here.

I think as younger players, they looked comparable, but Upemecano really stepped up more than Konate. I think he's generally considered 1st choice over him, even when both are fit. He's a bit more rounded. Konate does certain things better, he's morepowerful and better aeriella but Upemecano is certainly seen as the better all round prospect. This is obviously heightened by the injuries to Konate.

However, a lot of people are probably judging Upemecano on his 2 games against Liverpool which is a partial mistake. He has a wider body of work. It is interesting though, as generally German CB's (or CB's from Germany) have not travelled well here. You think of Rudiger who was a leading CB in Germany and has really struggled to get to that level.

As for Konate, I'd be a bit less worried on the injury front if I were them. If he comes, and they commit 35m on him, he will be coming in to be 1st choice.

It's also worth stating, that just because Upemecano is ahead now (and when you factor in injuries fairly substantially ahead in terms of reputation) it doesn't automatically mean he will become the better player. There's also a case that Konate with his power is probably a bit more suited to the PL. Ultimately though, I would say theym wanted Upemecano but he wasn't interested so moved to plan B. That was probably the big USP he had for them.

I stand corrected, I was mixing him up with Upemecano who looked absolutely terrible.
Yeah Upemacano looks pretty average doesn't he, has all the physical attributes of pace and power but contrast that with his alarming clumsyness and he doesn't look like he reads the game well, he looked atrocious in the games against United and RS.

Bayern should have gone for that young CB at Wolfsburg, another up and coming french CB Lecroix.

And so did Mangala remember?!
(to be fair on his debut for against Chelsea
he did look like a world beater).

Yeha Mangela looked like a earlier version of Koulibaly, he was excellent at Porto and a lot of clubs were looking at him.

But power and pace only gets you so far as a CB, if you cannot read the game by the time you get to your mid 20's then you'll be more like a Titus Bramble instead of a Ramos, VVD, Koulibaly type.

the RS are valued at £5.33 billion, apparently:

No, it's FSG that are valued at £5.33 billion. And it's FSG who have had the investment, not Liverpool. The article starts of by suggesting they money will go towards a new stand and players, then ends it by suggesting none of it may filter down to Liverpool. So I'm guessing we just don't know at this stage

That would be the sum of them and the Red sox I think

that would make more sense

And the rest of the FSG stock. Liverpool around 35-40% of their portfolio. Values Liverpool around £2bn which seems a bit high and probably why they are partially cashing out.

There will be loads of takes on this. It will not mean a soending splurge on players, as some will state. Even Pearce, who's very friendly is pouring cold water on it

On the flip, it's good for Liverpool. Essentially Liverpools losses are put onto FSGs balance sheet (so their accounts will not look that bad as a result)- I'm not sure how legal this is in either the spirit, or application of FFP. What it will mean is that the worst pressures of the losses will be staved off (though I wonder if the CL concern and missing out on hadnt been factored in).

Very similar to Moshiri and what he did in the summer. A way of injecting capital to keep the business ticking over. I think it probably strengthens their hand against Klopp to do it their way.

I'd also say, longer term makes any onward sale hard, as theres another party involved now who will want dividends. This will also mean that the club will probably run more frugally to generate that return and increase in value to the business.

So mixed overall. Essentially FSG losing some influence, in exchange for getting them through a short term pinch point.

Either that, or they are signing upemecano, Havertz, Sancho, Werner and Mbappe. Believe what you will!
