If, at the start of the season, we had been offered joint 6th in the league (level with Liverpool) after 24 games, with a game in hand (potentially only 2 points away from a Champions League spot)), a win at Anfield and a chance at an FA Cup semi-final we would have taken it without a second thought! Although mistakes have been made, overall Carlo has delivered more than we could realistically hope for in his first season. I'm more than happy with progress made and excited about the future.

If we somehow beat city in the cup then I think we will go all the way

CA has had three transfer windows so far and two of those were January windows where minimal business is done and January 2021 even more so.

He has had one summer window and there was an element of fire fighting in that window where he simply had to strengthen central midfield(Allan and Doucoure) , strengthen at centre back(Godfrey), strenghten goalkeeping position and the only indulgence was to bring in a world class player that wanted to play with CA again in a deal that became affordable.

We have seen that the summer business stabilised the team but we all know there are limitations there and in the summer I think we will see Carlo start the building of the team he wants but I do not expect a large influx of players.

Specific players and specific positions will be targeted.

Pragmatic.
- a world away from idealists like Martinez and Silva.

A class act/thoroughly nice bloke.
- a world away from Koeman and Allardyce.

World class credentials.
- a world away from any previous Everton manager, Howard aside.

Sure, nobody is without some critique but there's a handful of people on here, and elsewhere who go well over the top with the criticism and stick the knife in at every opportunity - who then go silent when things are going well.

Let's back the bloke to the hilt, he'll give us memories that last a lifetime.

I would say we'll fill those positions at a minimum...if we go with wide forwards.

Once Mina is fit and Branthwaite is back then we have Holgate for the right side, Keane/Mina for the middle, Godfrey/Branthwaite for the left side. We can also draft in Coleman and Digne on the right and left respectively who have played in a back three before. I think we’d have enough. It would solve a lot of our problems if we could get the 3412 working properly. James behind Richalrison and DCL puts them all in their best positions. Digne and Iwobi wouldn’t get caught out defensively, Allan and Docuoure could play in a 2 in midfield. It ought to work but it just didn’t when we tried it earlier in the season apart from one great 45 mins against Fulham.
Ive moved my reply to this thread...

3412 if Ancelotti can get it working consistently would be ideal.

Really think that we should aim for a centrally focused team, meaning if we can only really have 2 wing backs and the rest of the side is in the central positions then we could overpower teams.

Central midfielders and defenders, plus a RWB would come out cheaper than bringing in wide attackers as well and it seems to be where our strength lies.

Either a 442 diamond or a 3412 or derivative could be quite exciting.

The diamond might be able to work with Davies at the base Allan Docuoure either side and James at 10, but in order for it to work you need really good footballers on the ball at full back and in midfield and I’m not sure Coleman and Docuoure on the right side could do that. We’d need a mirror image of Digne on the right side to get it to work.

Yes, we'd need 1 new CB, 1 right back and 2 CMs also Kean back and perhaps Sigurdsson kept for a season.

It would seem to better suit our current players and save us spending big on any wide players.

We could actually pretty much fix our team with 4 new players in those positions and look very strong in depth as well.

lol lol lol

Why on Earth are we buying a CB, ffs.

We've got the best suite of CBs I can ever remember us having. Four class acts currently in the squad, plus Branthwaite.

The last position we'll be looking to strengthen.
Its utter madness.

Hes whole argument rests on a this high line he imagines Carlo wants to play. Go and look at his Milan team, his Madrid team, his Bayern team, his Napoli team, his Everton team, not 1 of them played a high line.

I get the benefits of playing with a high line, but people ignore the benefits from playing a deep line, ain't nobody getting in round the back and it means other teams push on thus leaving their own space behind.

It was hilarious watching people jump all over Keane for making 1 mistake in the last 16 months, they couldn't wait.

He’s already given some of our younger fan base something they’ve never experienced in their lifetime........a win at the pit.
