ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Oh and just to add as well, they keep making a mess of these sort of things. Short corners when they are not needed. Goalkeeper randomly launching forward. Last night faffing about with the ball when the whistle should have been blown rather than whacking it forward.

It's a small thing, but to me it's quite indicative of a side who seem to have completely lost their heads. It's the sort of stuff we would do under Martinez and to a degree Silva that would make my blood boil. Just no common sense whatsoever. Making the wrong decision, and then executing a simple 1 yard tap badly.

They have been very good at that stuff over the last 2 years as well. They got loads of late goals, as they would keep their heads and just keep making the right decisions. That seems to have completely gone. I have no idea why. My only theory, is the managers own mental disintegration (which is very plain to see) is translating to the players and making them nervous. The best thing he could probably do, is just take all the pressure off. Tell them the season is pretty much done, especially the league, and to enjoy themselves.
Klopp looks like a manager u don’t want when losing, he a good manager when your winning but when ur not I’d imagine he a not very nice person.

For me, I don’t think they win the league last season if it wasn’t for the CL win, losing by a point and trying to bounce back would of been totally different without that CL win.

Trent Alexander-Arnold lost possesion 39 times last night, a new record for this Premier League season.
The previous record of 38 times was also held by Alexander-Arnold.
Who also holds the all time PL record of most losses of possesion in a match (something extraordinary like 45 times).

Best in the world.

Yea i'd agree

Their entire system is based around creation and goals from 5 (maybe 6 if you include Vandijk) players, the two FB's and the three up front. Everyone of them looks goosed & out of form, it might click back in, but it seems unlikely.

Two chinks of light for them, despite the awful results they have conceded two goals in five & the run of fixtures might just suit them, it's essentially a different sport.

One mad stat mentioned last night, they have the highest points in the league in the "Traditional top 6" mini league & the lowest in the league against the bottom 6.

They are now 2/5 for top 4 & I think that's a lay all day.

Yes it's fair. And in fairness I've always said we'd do ok against the top teams, so it is a different set of expectations.

They were playijng a lot better when most of those games were being played though. Thats the cavaet really. And those sides will view the game differently too. I mean, the United game, United deserved to win and they had the same pattern of running out of ideas after 25 minutes or so. United played really badly in possession but still made the best 3 or 4 chances.

They are defensively fine, but again you do wonder how much is because sides haven't really attacked them. West Brom got 1 and declared. Southampton got 1 and declared. United only really started attacking in the last 25 minutes. I don't watch them and think "there's no chances here".

The only other thing I'd add, is I think you see how underrated their midfield was before. I remember some reds laughing at me for saying Thiago wouldn't automatically make them better. They had a well oiled machine that knew what it was doing. 3 big lads who pressed and allowed attacks to be sustained. He doesn't. I said at the time, Wijnaldum is as good as Thiago, and probably a much better fit. I have no idea why they are allowing him to leave for nothing.

What you see, from Thiago, from Chamberlain, from Keita and then your Shaqiri's/Minamino's who play in there, is none of them can even get closeto what their first choice 3 give them. The only 1 who can is Milner (who again is underrated).

I think you said the other night about getting the kids into defence. If I was Klopp I write Henderson, Fabinho & Wijnaldum down as my midfield and work back from there. At CB WIlliams is nearly 20, and Phillips is 24. They are not kids. Stick one next to Matip, and when Matip isn't fit, play them both together if needs be. All he's done by moving everyone is spread the contagian to midfield.

Yes to all of this really. He reminds me of a golfer who always goes for the flag so to speak. Every shot will be aggressive. When you're playing well and everything is smooth- no wind etc you're going to shoot 6/7 under and blow the competition away. However once your game struggles a bit, then it can go really awry with that sort of approach, which I think you're beginning to see.

I also think they are probably seeing another side to Klopp. Remember Mourinho at Chelsea, when he shouted at that doctor, and the players just downed tools on him. It's beginning to look a bit like that. Whatever you think of players, they ahve worked miracles for him, and if he turns on them, youd understand that there would be a response.

Hilarious how out of his depth he looks without Van Dijk next to him.

Robertson as much as I hate the little rat can still defend at least, but ‘Trent’ gets skinned by any winger who runs at him.

He’s also been terrible on the ball recently.

Also, is there any other player in the league that gets referred to solely by their first name by commentators? Makes me sick every time I hear carragher say ‘Trent’
They just can't be arsed to say "Alexander-Arnold", that's all lol

Tio me there have been 2 quite big milestones for this Liverpool team. The Watford defeat then the Villa defeat.

Losing to a side who finished 19th, so comprehenively really broke the illusion of an unbeatable team. Both to opponents and to their players. The Villa game, conceding 7 (I can't remember the last time a side conceded 7) and Villa essentially calling it in with 20 to go would have also got in their heads.

There was a lot of talk of just replacing the goalkeeper, dropping Gomes, getting Thigo back, playing a 4-2-3-1 etc would resolve the issue. None of those have worked, and it's clearly a much deeper problem than that now.

They seem to really panic from about 60 onwards to me. Where great teams really kick into gear at that point, they seem to go the other way. I'm not sure dropping or adding in a single player, or changing systems will resolve that.

It has gone from a short term problem to a medium term dip down. Its 30 odd games ago they played Watford now, so it's not a blip. The question is really, is this a medium term issue that takes months to resolve, or something long term. We've gone past the time they will click their fingers, have a team meeting and get 90 points. I've said throughout they won't, and happy to take any better, for any amount of money they don't get more than 90 (which I've maintained throughout).

I always think when you start having team meetings in that way, it's never long before a crisis comes. It's that old dreaded vote of confidence territory.

We are now very much at the point of saying how deep, and how long will this crisis be. A couple of big wins may paper over cracks, but they won't deal with the fundamentals now.

Its interesting Carragher has gone big on the front 3 needing to be broken up. I mean he's right, but why now? I suspect it's inevitable they sell at least one. They may move on more than 1 in the summer though. I can see them going into transition from the summer and starting a rebuild. It's going to be a very difficult terrain to conduct such a rebuild though.

TAA is crap.... anyone who cares to vault me will see I’ve said this since he first came on the scene,,,, massively overhyped defender who can’t defend, I don’t understand the hype every player at that club gets whenever they start playing for them.... wisdom, flannaggan, Brewster, taa, keita .... the list goes on and on.... bog standard players.

Well they should be arsed they’re getting paid to do it!

And don’t get me started on their obsession with calling Roberto Firmino ‘Bobby’.

You never hear a commentator say ‘Richie’ instead of Richarlison!
I 'kin loathe Firmino, but "Bobby" is a common diminutive form of "Robert/Roberto". It's not quite the same thing.

"Richarlison" is our player's surname, and "Richie" just a nickname that some of our fans use.

Personally I think both are cringe.

In the second one it says he's had 2548 touches, he's given it away 736 times. What is the definition of a touch? Is it from when he gets the ball to when he is no longer in control, a headed clearance is a touch that a lot of the time goes to an opposition player.. whatever the definition is he gives the ball away once in every 3.5 touches, which is horrific.
