Didnt really know what to call this thread but this is a thread where you post two different versions of a song by different artists. This can be covers, a song using a sample of another song, etc. And post your opinions about them. Here's mine:

Original:

I actually do like the cover. The BoH version is definitely better, but I like the "soul" feeling in Cee-Lo's version.

*Is this too similar to the favourite cover versions thread? If so, I apologise.

I love both songs. They are both in my top 3 songs by both artists.

Can't beat the Original of this song but the second vid is a nice remake.

I don't normally like covers as most seem to just mimic the originals. But I have a soft spot for covers that take a fresh spin on something. This is a good example of that; Scarling. -- one of my favourite ever bands -- covering Radiohead -- another one of my favourite ever bands -- in their own way.

No offense, but that cover just hurts my ears... the original is a classic, and they killed it... :(

I love the Jeff Buckley cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah...

Bollocks. No offense, but bollocks.

They took it in a completely different direction. You may not like that direction, but as a fan of both bands, I did.

And being brutally honest, as a big Radiohead fan, Creep is overrated anyway.

As for Buckley's cover, despite that being a really obvious suggestion, it is indeed a boss one. Certainly one of my favourite covers. Probably even better than the original actually!

Props to Cee Lo for covering one of my all time favorite songs. However I think his version doesn't convey the sadness and melancholy of that song.

Here's one where I like the cover version better than the original...mostly because I'm in love with Harriet Wheelers voice and Jagger's voice doesn't do much for me on the slower stuff.

Theres also the acoustic version.

Im not sure if the vocal track is the same or not but I like the vocals a tiny bit more in the acoustic version. It also sounds more sad. But the bass line in the original is killer.

It's an interesting one, I think.

The originally Cohen song is far more balanced, emotionally, it has sad bits and less sad bits. Buckley flattens it out entirely and just hits "this is sad, feel sad" button again and again.

And I feel like I should disaprove because it's so less subtle and real. But, he's really good at it. His version is a terrific kind of tear jerker of a song which works much better than the orginal Cohen but isn't as ambitious.

Basically Cohen is West Brom under Mowbray who are trying to do something cool but can't quite pull it off and Buckley is Tony Pulis who comes in and has them just play long balls into the box instead. And then wins the league with them.

"First we take Manhatten" is the better song, anyway.

You showed me that a while ago. Quality indeed.

Wow. How about that for an analogy, ladies and gents? Combining music with what should be the focal point of this forum; football.

Anyway, I think Buckley's is infinitely more emotional... but his has the advantage of every listen now being a posthumous one. Well, it's not really an advantage to be fair... seeing as he had to die to get it. :P
