ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

I've put a longer reply to you, but what it shows you is Klopp does not rate Komadeio, Willaims or Phillips (albeit he is about 25). They won't make the grade.

Fabinho is a big miss. I mean they do slightly overrate him, but he's a very good CM, and is not (as they claim) a world class Centre back.

I'd agree completely on the three lads, but remain confused as to why there isnt some sort of deal done for "a body" if that is the case.

Fabinho a good CB in his own right, but from my view the trade off is not worth it. The logic in taking a top class CM out of your team to act as a decent body doesnt make sense to me

Knowing how jammy the RS are they'll probably go out and beat the Manc's comfortably, then we'll have the media in wankfest mode again.
It wouldn't be surprising.
SKY & the Premier League have been dreaming about this situation for over a decade.
Can't see them letting slip now.
Heard ya the second time.

Slowing down?
He's speeding up!
All down to his 'astonishing mindset' of course.
(Don't mention the inhlaer!)
From a Ciry perspective (as I make you favourites) who ar eyou more worried about in terms of United/Liverpool this season? You're probably as close as you can get to a neutral on this :D
I'm more worried about Liverpool to be honest. I just can't see them continuing to drop off like they have in recent games to be honest.
It will be an alarming drop off and a really poor defence of the title if they do. Having said that, I still really can't get my head around the
fact that United are top of the league at this stage of the season. It's totally bizzare. Apart from Fernandes I genuinely can't think of any
other player who get in the City side (maybe Rashford at a push). I do think if we can string a run of results together we can win it and if
Aguero can come back and stay fit (a big 'if' though these days is that) that will be a big boost to our chances. It's interesting you have asked that
question as only this morning I was pondering who would I prefer to win out of Liverpool or United it if City don't? Eventually, and much to my own amazement I went for United. Which as a life long blue who has had his nose rubbed in it by them for the best part of 45 years pre the takover it
actually shocked me. However, I guess it shows just how much I despise Liverpool as a team, club and fanbase - genuinely and truly obnoxious on every level.
It was a close run thing, but there you go. If Liverpool do continue in their current form and miss a CL place I think it will be the end of Klopp come the end of the season and it will also mean the greatest champions in the history of the Premier League & football in general lasted exactly one season!
Who do think is the biggest danger?

Obviously there are some decent Scouse match going RS, that are relatively ok. I think with the RS is that they've been portrayed by the media as the best supporters in the world, so they constantly need to virtue signal how scouse they are and they're such big reds. How many times do you see some divvy wandering round the supermarket wearing RS regalia, saw some woman today wandering round with a RS scarf and hat.

Their contrived flag waving, stupid waiting for the team buses and even singing Munich songs at a wake to prove their RS credentials. Most of the RS on Merseyside have never been closer to Anfield with the exception of when their ma took them to Tuebrook market. Also the can't get tickets brigade never turned up when they were offering free childs tickets with any adult buying a ticket, they still couldn't fill their ground. When they were doing rubbish around 2015/2016 they were nowhere to be seen. We took 10 000 to Lille they only took half their allocation to Bordeaux.

They are the worst fans the league or the country by far, they haven't really struggled since the sixties, yet they talk about being loyal. At least United fans know a lot of their fans are glory hunters and acknowledge it, but they were still loyal in 70s and 80s when they were rubbish, same with some Chelsea fans and City fans. Also they aren't a crazy as Rangers and Celtic fans in terms of their atmosphere and their sheer devotion of their respective clubs. They are an establishment club, they aren't rebels of any kind as the like to portray themselves as.
Case in point: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/9327929.stm

35,000 for a league game, that’s when they had 45,000 seats.

But best fans in the world.

Cutting off their nose to spite ones face perhaps?

I dunno. I know you said when Matip went down theyd sign a replacement and I said I wasnt sure. You were right though, all logic says you go and get Tomori or Mustafi on loan or whatever. Yes there will be a premium and loaning players is not this get out if jail free card some think (you basically pay lots of fees to sign, but only get 6 months actions). Its illogical what they are doing. You were right in that regard, it makes little sense.

If I were weighing up why I'd give 3 obvious option (and it could be more than 1).

1- All is not well behind the scenes and theres a power play going on with FSG (perhaps why Klopp is playing mids in there, this stuff does happen).

2- The money situation is really tight and theres no room

3- (And this is the killer) the Van Dijk/Gomez situation is much worse than feared. That actually neither are back any time soon and doubts about longevity of 1 or both are felt. So just signing a stop gap just wastes precious funds when you need to sign 1 or possibly 2 replacements come the summer.

The players they want will only be available come the summer, so dont waste any money needlessly before that.

They are my thoughts. Very odd though, if they lose at the weekend, United have huge momentum to finish above them.

My reading is similar to yours really mate. I said even a few weeks back you would be Liverpools biggest competitors. Both sides have shown they can win ugly, and go on batches of wins. So for me Liverpool are a bigger threat, if I was a City fan I'd rather United won that than Liverpool.

I agree with you on United too. They are a funny one. Fernandes is talismatic, and brings the best out of those around him. Reminds me a bit of that Suarez season with Liverpool, where 1 world class player ended up bringing the best season out of the likesof Sturridge and they just found this momentum from nowhere.

It's an odd season, as in any of the last 3, City (twice) and Liverpool (once) would have already had the league wrapped up. So while United have done well, it is within the context of Liverpool and City falling off. To some extent that was inevitable though, given the resources of the league we shouldn't be allow sides to clock up 100 points,so it's not to slate yourselves or Liverpool, it was just inevitable. But it's not a vintage United team, though in a way it doesn't have to be. Maguire is a bit overrated, but seems to have had a good season this year.

I said about 18 months ago that City would fall off, and that Liverpool would follow City's trajectory but probably 12months behind. Everything has shown that really. They are where you were last season. What City did well, was to contain the contagion as it were and recover to 81 points. They run the risk of not doing that. What you've also done well, is actually some underrated business lst summer. Diaz has been very very good, and Cancelo looks to have settled now.

The key question is going to be, for Liverpool will be can they go and spend 60m on a centre back, and get one in at the level of a Diaz. And do they have a 2nd defender of the calibre of Diaz currently not playing who can step in? Or if not can they bring a 2nd one in? Essentially spending £100m+ to turn the tide. I am doubtful.I'm doubtful if Diaz didn't arrive, and Cancelo didn't find form, that the slide wouldn't have continued to City, and it may for Liverpool.

As for United, their medium prospects do seem a bit better. They have far bigger cash reserves than Liverpool (Liverpool don't have cash reserves) and a much younger squad. They are adding heavily some very highly rated young players (Diallo and Pellistri this window) to go alongside Rashford, Greenwood etc. Some talk of Kounde too. Pains me to say it, and while the cavaet is OGS is a bit limitation for them, over the next 2-3 years they could become a force again.

Thats my reading. As someone said here a few days, my hope is United win it over you guys, and it spurs you go go wild next summer. Bring in Messi, maybe Mbappe etc. Thats a win win all round and go on to dominate for the next few years after that.

I think you can draw a line through 3 when it comes to VVD - he is back doing ball work and by all accounts progressing well ahead of what would be a traditional ACL schedule. No idea what is even wrong with Gomez, never mind a sense of progress

1 & 2; could be either or both. My personal gut feeling is they cant get who they want & as such wont buy another stephen caulker or equivilent. You mentioned in another post FSG are not idiots, with Money at 0% interest or even less, I think getting a loan or cheap buy is achievable even if they are really tight for cash.
