Beckford's goals

He could do with being a part of a little-and-large front line, or paired up with someone who has the intelligence and craft to play a decent through ball.

10 Goals in his first premier league season, cost zero in transfer fee.

Thats a hell of a return no matter how you paint it.

Considering how terribly poor he was in his first few games, he's learnt very quickly. Scoring ten goals in the Prem isn't easy, if he can keep improving then hopefully he'll be able to do it every season.

This was my favorite since it happened about 15 yards in front of my face.

The great thing about it for me is that John Terry was trying to mark three of our players at once! It was the same when we came back against United. That's why I get frustrated that we don't do it more often.

Ive been saying this all week i think he has it in him, surpriseingly the only scruffy goal he had was against Blackpool, that said his movement in the box and ability to make space is excellent, but his goals have been varied which gives you a sense of his quality, Volleys, Headers, Quality strikes, Placements and tap ins.

I think in terms of scruffy goals he has it in him, what we lack though is the pace to break so he can find space to score before defenders set up, we need a faster and more direct style of attack overall.

As for 4-4-2 i jnow what people are saying, but lets not forget that when he and Saha did play together and well, it wasnt a 4-4-2. Saha played more in the cahill role just behind Beckford.

His movement on the whole is pretty good. His partnership with Saha looked really good even in pre-season. It always seemed that one or the other would end up scoring. Unfortunately, I think Louis will be a bit-part player at best in future. We could do with a clever player to bring the best out of Beckford. Maybe someone like Elmander, if he wasn't off to Turkey.

He's a proper number 9 is Beckford. Which means he needs a proper number ten beside him. Ideally a top class one like Saha that he can learn from as well as play off but any clever deep playing striker will do.

A lone striker needs to be able to bully defenders in a way that he can't though.

If he was playing next to a 'Beardsley' I think he would score tons of goals, just as Andy Cole did. Sheringham complimented him pretty well too. I'm just trying to think of anyone around at the moment with that sort of guile who we could pick up cheaply.

Beckford is a good striker, there's no doubt in my mind, I was happy when we signed him and he justified that by banging in 10 goals despite not being a regular starter, I do believe he can get 20 goals next year if played right, which is up front with a partner in a two or playing Cahill as a second striker doing the donkey work just behind him, scores a variety of goals, has great movement around the box and he's quick.

Rare breed your looking for there. The Beardsley, Sheringham, Zola Bergkamp NUmber 10's are few & far between.

We have two options.. Get Adrian Heath out of retirement or go the Moyes route with big Vic... hmmmmm decisions...

Cole did have a good relationship with Yorke too. I don't think Vic is our Dwight. I'm just looking at the scorers table and wondering if we need to think about Kalou again. You'd expect that Sturridge's inevitable return and the likely arrival of Neymar will push him further down the pecking order. He's only got a year left on his contract. He's 25 and his goal scoring record, despite not being a regular, ranges from 1 in 2 to 1 in 4 for club and country. This season he's scored as many as Gyan, Nasri and Torres and only 2 fewer than Drogba. He's also provided as many assists as Malouda and Saurez. A cheeky bid of about £3.5m might be enough.

i thought that the jury was still out for me on Beckford, but you really cant argue with the figures at all, especially considering he was a free transfer
he is frustrating a lot of the time, but hes got the ability to create something out of nothing, which is not something we have in abundance, can you imagine anyone else in the squad scoring the goal he did on Sunday?
