ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

in 2018/19 he ran more km per 90 minutes than any player that played a significant number of minutes. He’s a year or two younger than I thought but the point remains that 33 year olds should not be physically outperforming players 10 years younger than them. Look at other players of Milner’s era: Rooney Scholes Barry Lampard even Gerrard they all slowed down, they kept their quality but past 32 they had all adapted how they played and had to move away from the high octane stuff. Even Messi and Ronaldo have declined and they’re the greatest of all time. Milner has been better the last couple of seasons than he was at City and Villa. He came on at right back at the weekend and snuffed out one of the fastest wingers in world football with ease.

Why do people think it’s natural? How many other 34 year olds are still performing in the premier league at league winning level without slowing down?
It is perfectly normal for athletes in their early thirties to excel in running longer distances. As you age, you lose fast-twitch muscle fibers the ones that help with sprinting and and gain slow-twitch muscle fibers the ones that help you with endurance.

The likes of Richard Gough, Gareth Barry and currently Seamus Coleman show that age is no barrier to fitness or athletic ability.

Richard Gough. What a player loved him at the back. He turned like a piano but read the game so well. Him and John Collins were mint that time

would love to have a read of that if you can share, even at that you are talking about a 32 year old, not a 35 year old.

Milner seems a freak alright, but always has been in terms of distances etc & seems to look after himself. Again could well be juiced to the gills, but again there is nothing to suggest that.

Let's just say that since his City days he has bulked up significantly and is faster than he was in his supposed prime...

I thought his legs had gone

just reading on Gomez, looks like the worst possible result for him & could be career ending, which is awful.

Should he miss the rest of this season, he will have missed 160+ club games due to injuries on international duty, all in exchange for 11 caps. Suspect there are good few considering if the risk is worth it over their coffee in St Georges Park this morning.

I read a message last night saying the injury was an absolute shocker.
Can’t see anything official in the press yet though.

Yeah, Im no physio, but my understanding is a good medic will be fairly sure of the extent of a knee injury by the movement of the patella (kneecap) in the Drs hand. Too many people suggesting the same thing for it to be incorrect.

Where’s this been suggested mate?
I know we’ve all done a bit of ribbing in here, but I'm sure nobody would’ve wanted to see anything like that being the outcome.

Only one person to blame if he is that badly injured: the loony who insists on training at 100% every minute of the week and tells them to recover with the aid of some dubious kit/substances.

As Southgate said yesterday, the governing bodies and teams etc etc were given a chance to work together on scheduling this year but refused to co-operate, just comes down to money at the end of the day.
