Nkounkou will start but it might mean Delph comes in instead of Gomes.

Sigurdsson or Bernard will start down the left I think.

Gordon or Iwobi right.

We're massively, massively short up top and, regardless of Richarlison's stupid tackle, it's the decision not to get another forward in which has cost us. It's on the board/those responsible for transfers - include Carlo in that if he thought we could get by.

Our options aren't good enough and we don't even have a second striker to allow us to change shape and have someone partner Dom so we can play with wing-backs.

Gonna be a tough, tough game.

I cannot see Carlo playing 2 inexperienced FBs .especially as the 2 first choice players in front of them are also missing
I wouldn't be surprised if you were proved right, but Kenny is 23 and has just had a full season as a starter at Schalke. He should really be considered a senior player now.

Also, I think that Delph would be a sitting duck at left-back. His legs have completely gone.

Looks like all our play will be confined to that left hand side with Gordon (hopefully) & Nkounkou (Who I’m excited to see play).

Hmmm. I think its down to getting rid of players that still held us back. Next summer we will be free of all the expensive dead weight. Ellis Simms will get used between now and January. Think we’ll be ok dont want to splurge a load of cash in Jan either. Richy doesnt get sent off an we’re not even discussing squad issues in the same way.

hang tight! Carlo will know what to do!

Simms is not going to be used unless we really are down to the last legs - that's the view of the club.

Tosun is being used as third-choice but he isn't fit.

Regardless, we needed a 'forward' - not particularly a CF. We needed a player to play in any of the three roles up front and give us a potent threat, even if not the same threat as Richarlison/James.

It's about mitigating risk in a season which has more risk due to fixture congestion (including daft international breaks of three games) and COVID.

We didn't mitigate that risk, and it could be seen a mile off.

I can see Delph coming in. Delph and Allan with Doucoure higher up pressing. Gordon I think will definitely play though not sure which side. Then it's a toss up between Bernard, Iwobi and Gylfi to see who is given another chance to impress.

I had an awful feeling about Southampton and an even worse one about Newcastle. At this stage in our development we're not good enough - deep enough - to cope with our entire first choice left and right flanks. There's not enough quality to cover for losing our two best attacking players, in particular.

I would absolutely bite your hand off for a point to be honest. But I fear we will lose comfortably and not score. It's one of those games where nationally we're expected to win but the Evertonian instinct in me tells me to expect the opposite.

My only glimmer of hope for this game is the man in the dugout - perhaps he can cook something up.

For what it's worth, if we had a 2nd striker I'd think about going 532 (or 5311 at least) - but I don't think it will happen.

5311 Could work with either Bernard Siggy Gordon behind DCL
Neils and JJK providing width
