I mean, if we actually are interested and King knows this, wouldn’t you be pushing Bournemouth to let you move to the Prem leaders? I would.

Comparison to Holgate is a bit weird seeing as he’d played 40 or so Prem games prior to last season and Simms hasn’t kicked a ball in the Prem ?

The comparison was based on the fact that this forum assumed he would not be used as backup. He was widely written off as an option and great criticism levelled at the fact that we were a CB short going into the season.
Very much like the situation now over striker. My point is that if the club think he is ready, they will give him the second backup position. If they buy King, his path is blocked and he should be sold.

That’s not true at all - Simms‘ time will come and there are plenty of games to play.

We should encourage competition for places to bring out the best of the squad.

If you're right we need to see Simms on the bench this weekend. Assuming we have a full team out, I expect the bench to be

Olsen. Godfrey, either Davies/Delph, Sigurdsson, Iwobi, Bernard, Gordon.

If Simms were included, who would drop out?

I think Richarlison can play striker if DCL is out and Iwobi, Bernard or Gordon can replace Richarlison, so Simms won’t make the bench.
If we sign King, Simms needs to go out on loan for at least two years because there is no way for him to play.
I don’t know how close the club feel he is to the first team, but work Richy, DCL and Tocsun (soon available) it may be better not to take King and leave some sort of pathway for Simms.

If he's good enough, he'll get chances. If he isn't, then he won't.

It's not a good enough excuse not to strengthen the squad to say that youth will be left behind and a well managed club won't let that happen anyway. There are plenty of top teams out there with loads of options, but where the best young prospects have managed to earn their place on merit.
