The Yak

Everyone always talks about the Yak as having a brilliant record in England. Its not that great. He's made like 80 appearances for Portsmouth Boro and us and only scored 20 odd goals for each. Its nothing special. 82 apps 25 goals isnt something to go nuts over. 9 in 18 is quite good though!

It's not special sure, but when you look at Anichebe with his deal until 2014 and his terrible record then it beggars belief that we would send Yak out on loan really.

Not to mention that the Yak's hold up play is great, and he keeps his head up to bring others into play... whilst Anichebe would rather just fall over.

Where did those 20~ in 80~ stats come from? I remember doing some google/wiki research on the Yak's scoring record and he was somewhere around a goal every two and a half games.

25 goals in 56 league starts for us, he's come on a further 26 times. He's also scored 4 goals in 6 league cup starts and 4 goals in 12 starts in other competitions. His career record is 93 league goals in 216 starts.

Didnt he have the best goal ratio behind Henry and Van Nistleroy at one point.

Yes, he definitely had some record, I'm not sure I remember it perfectly though.

It was some impressive yet minorly convoluted stat, but if I remember correctly, I think it was, "when Henry left the EPL, Yakubu became the CURRENT EPL player with the best goal ratio for the previous 5 years."

It's a shame that run of form didn't continue with us.

Yakubu's goals to games ratio in his first season for us was fantastic, and his following season was cut short due to THAT injury. He's never been the same since that, he lost that yard of pace. I honestly believe that had he not had that injury then we would still be looking at a 15+ goal a season striker, such a shame.
