Positves are that he played 90 mins, scored a pen confidently so is off the mark, and was in the right place to hit the woodwork twice.
However, his all round game is not up the DCL standard at this stage.

Basing what on mate?
Why does he not get more starts if he is showing that much.
For most of tonight he was very poor . He scored a penalty. I would not let that cloud my judgement on his performance. He has at times shown he can be a good player. But he was also shown at times he has been poor .

You said if he's not starting the next 5-6 league games then he won't improve. But that's just not the case. Gordon won't start in any of the 5-6 league games if we keep fully fit, but you probably wouldn't say that about him?

He's 20-years-old, of course he has been inconsistent.

Dom starts because, in his three years now of regular football under four different managers, plus Unsworth, he has turned into being a very good leader of the line (if not the world's best finisher). That's taken time. Kean needs the same.

We aren't in a position to loan out our only back up striker and go and spend more big money on someone like Josh King and give him £60k a week. Not when we need - a winger (and a better one than Josh King), a right-back (Kenny dependent) and, urgently, a CB.

this. He is playing in front of our worst possible midfield combination. Through ball were non existence and all he can do is lurk like a lump up front. He is not that type of player and never will.

Then he isnt the player for Everton, cos thats not how we play and there are very few top level teams who do play like that. His movement off the ball isnt good enough for through balls, they dont just happen and someone chases it. It has to be made with striker movement, and his understanding of that part of the game appears to be lacking.

I'm off the opinion that a player will not really improve without playing proper games . Not that radical an opinion is it?
I said I'd loan him if we could get a replacement in . I'll stand by that.

We didn't play like that on Sunday whatsoever. It was nigth and day compared to today because today we played a 4-2-3-1 with the wingers really wide.

Gordon played very well as he could cut in and get involved. But Bernard was dropping deep and until late on Sigurdsson and Davies weren't making forward runs off the ball so there was little to no support.

The last 20 mins when Salford's legs went completely, our midfield finally advanced - and Gylfi scored that goal making a run into the area.

Sunday we played a 4-3-3 with Doucoure and Gomes getting forward and James cutting in. At times it went to a 4-1-2-1-2 with James drifting into the 10 spot and Richarlison getting in the area.

Two completely different styles of play - and entirely due to the players that played.

I'll keep saying this but he's got 3 goals in his last 3 starts for us.

That's not a bad conversion rate.
Ok but we were at home v Salford.

he looked as though he wouldn’t have been out of place leading their line.

his touch, control etc was Niasse like.

Niasse got a few goals for us too, but he wasn’t good, and based on that tonight, he isn’t either.
