Transfer Rumour Wilifred Zaha - January Transfer Thread

I swear Zaha was always playing on the right for palace but he was switched to the left because Townsend couldn’t play on the left. He was definitely on the right when Bolasie was there anyway

lol 40m for a talented but ultimately inconsistent player who scored 4 goals last season. Unless Steve Walsh comes back from the dead, that ain't happening. Thank god.

Well our DOF bid £50 million for said inconsistent player last season.

So how you come to that conclusion I'll never know.

I’m sorry I seem to be missing your point.
What difference does the player changing his mind make to his contractual obligations?
I think his post was originally a response to one Goat posted with a quote from Zaha from 3 years ago saying he was happy at Palace (or words to that effect). He wasn't questioning contractual obligations.

I personally think he'll end up here - something like £40 million + Bolasie.

Palace then have:

LW: Eze / Bolasie
RW: Behrama / Townsend.
Whilst nothing is impossible I doubt it.
We do not seem to be interested in recruiting for his favoured position.
Our interest was a year ago under a different manager with different requirements.
Considering how long negotiations take between first approach and signing I feel we would have to have placed an opening offer on the table by now to have any chance of completion.
His price is far too high, especially considering what we have paid for higher quality players thus far.
If we still intend to be active in the transfer market there are other positions which take priority and which will themselves occupy our time which we cannot afford to squander on a ‘luxury signing‘.

We've spent the best part of £70m on other players since then, and that's before you even take into account his bang average return last season... 4 goals and 3 assists in 38 games. £40m? No thanks.

Agree to an extent however surely all I've heard is Brands makes the signings and not Silva/Ancelotti?

If thats the case then for me you dont offer £50 millions for a player and not return the season after when we still need the assets Zaha offers out wide that we dont have (pace, directness).

Ultimately from what I've heard its all dependent on offloading 2 wide players which is the key task and why a move hasn't been made yet.

Same as RB we can only effectively secure one should we have a deal in place for Kenny - be it a permanent deal or loan with option to buy next summer.

The positive of FFP being suspended/merged with next year is that effectively we have the option of loaning a few cast offs out with purchase deals for next summer whereas without that suspension we would need to get deadwood sold this summer with loans out of the question.

Then I took Goats post to illustrate the fact that since he was happy to sign the contact 3years ago so why some acting as if he’s being
mistreated now? He isn’t.
Perhaps he should have insisted upon a ‘unless I change my mind clause’.

But the poster you were arguing with never mentioned him being mistreated, only about the possiblity that a player had changed his mind about wanting to stay. Your point about contracts is valid but, I feel, another point entirely

Haha, fair enough I concede the point that the player has indeed changed his mind during the intervening period since signing his contract.
I still fail to understand the significance of this fact to the discussion?
Ironically the whole purpose of a contract is to lock the agreement in place at the point of signature and guard against any changes of heart or future intent.
