This ... he’s in the last year of contract ... a loan would mean ya having to pay him massive wages or a massive signing on fee or alternatively he could sign pre contract with someone else in January or leave on a free next year.

Yep.. and then he is one year older when actually signed to at least a 3 year deal.. I would be very disappointed if there isn’t some type of option built in for next year..
