Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

I’m really not sure why everyone is celebrating this decision. The Saudis may not be the nicest out there but that’s not the reason this fell through. The PL, pressurised by PL clubs and tv rights partners have bottled this. Every other club can forget about attempting to join the party. By their own O&D test this should have passed, the PL accepted the PIF were a separate legal entity and then wanted the country named as a director to do tests on. That’s just madness and contradictory.

The PL is dead is far as I’m concerned now; it’s meaningless, globally the fan base of the top 6 will grow, that’ll satisfy tv audiences who don’t like to see their team lose and we and you will be there to make the numbers up.

The greater loss is to the region. We are in the middle of a global pandemic, the Rueben brothers already own a large chunk of ground and property around Newcastle and the prospect of increased investment was huge. People with no interest in football will lose out, sorely needed Govt investment will not materialise. The Reuben’s have for some time been contributing to local food banks.

SA has an appalling human rights record but nobody should kid themselves that this stopped the deal. You shouldn’t afraid of what could have been, you need to wake up to what is already there.

This isn’t sour grapes, it’s a realisation of the closed shop that will not be broken.

Cheers lads, try and stop the stereotype view of the average person from the north east eh.
Bud the horse pisses on your post

A second wave of infiltrators ironically called tsunami. Yet all he brings is a flood of salty tears. I wouldn't want a #cans of that beverage.

And some Sunderland roasting too. I love nothing better than eating my popcorn when seeing rival fans have a go at each other.

The faux victimhood is laughable.

No mate, what happened here is that the PL rightly took their time to do the due diligence required. The Saudis decided it’d be a great time to ban the legal owners of the PL TV rights from their nation again, making piracy the only option for SA residents. Meanwhile, they completely failed to convince the PL that the structure submitted to them was reflective of the genuine decision makers, should it pass.

The idea that this is somehow the big clubs corralling against the poor little Toon is abject nonsense. They’ve had their 2 penneth, same as you lot did to CAS over City. But to suggest they held sway is utter jarg.

What’s ultimately happened here is that the Saudis have sacked it off, as they’ve prioritised their geopolitical issue with Qatar over buying a slice in a football club, which in the grand scheme of things was a poxy sized investment for them anyway.

Get over it, and try apportioning the blame where it belongs, instead of this ridiculous false narrative you lot have created. It’s utterly pitiful to watch.

Can anyone rationally explain the hatred for Ashley?

For the last 3 years they've spent about double the money that their player sales have brought in.

He brought them their beloved "Rafael" (who it turns out is no better than Steve Bruce and plays WORSE football) and kept him for a bit.

He hasn't saddled them with debt like the Glazers or Hicks & Gillette as far as I'm aware?

I ask as I've taken absolutely no interest in Newcastle as a club in 10 years as they are an absolute insignificance.

Good away day though, Geordies and OTT policing aside.

We should lend the Geordies Bill Kenwright for a few seasons, see how they handle that.

That’s just bollocks tbh. He’s done with the club, he wants out, he needs the cash this would have brought. The £17M deposit is small consolation to what he’d have got. There is no other better offer, there’s no other offer full stop.

The hate for Ashley will only get worse, he’s not to blame here by the looks but he’s got 13 years of form to answer for.

All anyone should expect is for their club to become the best possible version it can be with the resources it has. That will never happen under Ashley. I’d rather be trying our best in League 1 than stinking out the PL hoping to finish 17th.

Perhaps your lot should use some deoderant before whipping your shirts off in an unsavoury manner?

That goes for your male fans as well xoxo

Wow, too busy getting the digs in to see what has happened here. The PL has bowed to pressures unrelated to the O&D test and made a request that could never be satisfied. At the very start of the process the PL recognised PIF as a separate legal entity, they have now asked that the country be named as a director and that the country undergo the O&D test. That’s just ridiculous.

Had this been a top 6 takeover it would have gone through make no mistake about that. The Saudis have been investing heavily throughout this pandemic, their statement about uncertain economic climate doesn’t ring right. They certainly weren’t going to say that they pulled out because they weren’t considered fit and proper.

Right, enjoy your day, I need to get Shearer out of his bed, collect the grandson from our Keegan’s house and take Rafael for his walk.

I must admit i had major doubts as to just how much finance would actually be put in by PIF, and over how long a period if it had been given the go ahead. Crucially the management structure was almost completely unreflective of the money put in by the various partners, PCP capital, the Reuben brothers and the 80% stake from PIF!!! The day to day running was envisaged to be mainly by the small minority partner Amanda Stavely, and from that point of view I was on the same page as catcherintherye. It wasn't to my mind likely to be all that was hoped for by Newcastle's fans. Yes, there were plenty of promises of investment in the club and area no doubt, but promises and actuality are two different matters altogether.

Any doubt that Yasir Al-Rumayyan belonged to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s innermost circle was dispelled when a photo of them went viral in Saudi Arabia in December 2018.

It showed him in a group relaxing, the so called 'band of hiking bros' as they've been dubbed by the financial press, resplendent in baseball caps, shorts and t shirts. His rise has amazingly almost exactly mirrored the rise to power of the prince himself, there's a coincidence.

Yasir Al-Rumayyan was the Saudi banker who became the head of Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund and a close confidante of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman with no experience in oil or energy, yet it was he who was put forward to run Saudi Aramco in 2019. This was the country's top corporate job at the world's most profitable company as it prepared for what may have been the biggest initial public offering (IPO) ever. This alone perhaps confirmed a pattern of the rising fortunes of the former banker almost exactly mirroring the rise of the prince.

As chairman of the Saudi sovereign wealth fund he now sits on the board of some of their other major investments including Uber. He was to become chairman of Newcastle with NO visible presence, an almost unheard of situation where the major investor providing 80% of the finance and the investment isn't truly reflected within the management structure.

There's little doubt that besides the well publicised streaming piracy infringements, it was the possible direct 'influence' of the regime itself, although maybe technically a separate entity, one that they could argue had no legal basis, that was the major concern and let's face it in reality, probability. So little wonder the premier league not being naive enough to just let this go when their controlling rights are being allegedly pirated by that same regimes' 'unowned again, and completely separate' streaming station BeoutQ, would be concerned . Believing the regime to not exert undue influence and power over it's interests isn't realistic, their record shows it. The possible connections to the Saudi regime could be denied as nothing official or legal, bbut the overwhelming probability is they were definitely real enough and the controlling interest, in actuality if not on paper, would be the regime itself.

I share your concerns and don't want protectionism of the rich cartel of clubs and FFP to survive, I don't want the drawbridge to be drawn up so noone else can join or even compete. But this failed bid didn't do that, even if it sounds dramatic to assert it did not at all. It was the piracy, the alleged influence over the pirate station of the regime, the commercial conflicts of rights issues in the middle East and doubts over the actual influence of the regime within the sovereign wealth fund and the unreflective proposed management structure that made what should have been a straightforward procesz into such a massively and unexpected protracted one. The premier league couldn't legally prove anything but we're reluctant knowing the all too likely actuality. In the end they were probably grateful the bidders themselves pulled out

I'm against the cosy cartel, protected by FFP that ganged up on City. The tearing down of the protectionist FFP and the artificial barriers erected by the rich to protect the rich, that was the real battle to my mind. Man City's victory in their appeal represented the first steps towards the crumbling of those walls. Successful takeovers should now effectively have more licence to spend their own money on their own clubs how they want to (spend their own money)

Although it may sound perverse to some, City's victory in their appeal was also a victory for the aspirant clubs hoping for a takeover so they too can one day compete at the top table. FFP is and has always been the real barrier, now Platini's barrier is crumbling.

Whats funny, is even after months and months of either lying, or being lied to you still don't get it do you? The penny just won't drop.

The PL have done nothing wrong here. They didn't reject the takeover. The buyer pulled out.

It is likely the buyer also stalled the process when asked how they might stop piracy. Rather than putting some (even quite tokenstic) action around it, the buyer doubleddown on piracy and banned an official broadcaster from their territory. The PL would have been well within their rights to just suspend talks then, but again tuck at it and tried to give the buyer time to comply with perfectly reasnable requests. The buyer chose not to.

The stuff about the economic climate doesn't "ring right"? Why? It sounds exactly right, that a buyer, who is clearly intending to take money out, not put money in, and was struggling to match the funds to buy the club (hence the loan from Ashley) have re-evaluated post Covid. The only situation it doesn't make sense, is if you believe the fairytales that have been told to you, by sections of your fanbase about a buyer who wants to pump loads in, They never did. That was never the plan.

At some point you're going to have to wake up, and stop spreading the lies above. Those who have told you the takeover would definitely happen, that Covid made no difference, that they'd never walk away, that only the PL rejecting them could stop it, the countless (10+) times it was about to be completed on good information etc. It's very obvious those spreading that information were talking absolute rubbish. Thats beyond queation now.

On this forum, we have tried to tell the truth, given the information available. Yes it might be hard to take, but at least you wouldnt have got such a nasty shock if you'd have listened. In the end it's the fairest it can be.

The buyer didn't give a damn about Newcastle, forget the words and look at the actions. Spent months if not years haggling over the price, played it all out in public, wanted to borrow money (from Ashley) to pay for their share as they wanted to put so little in, worked alongside a woman in Stavely who has been outed as a complete fantasist and liar and saw it as primarily and singularly an investment. In all likelihood you'd have been worse off than you are under Ashley who have given managers hundreds of millions. Maybe focus on giving him a fair crack of the whip going forward eh?
