I honestly cannot stand the never ending five-year plan. Can you not see that it never gets us anywhere at all? This mad belief that if you take it slowly and wait for 25 years then it will all eventually come together!
it's such a long time, just add that timescale to your age and then it becomes even more worrying.

It should be a 2 year plan for CL imo.

And we proved that too in 2014. But actually sustaining it requires more. At that point we didn't have any money so it was harder.

At the risk of sounding very Davek, Martinez understood our predicament better than anyone at the club that I can remember. He wanted to buy and nourish young players as much as he possibly could while keeping the squad functioning in the short term with cheaper buys. It's just that at that point he didn't have the funds to really make it work and he was also a disaster tactically.

I think you will find its cos he wasted vast sums on some utter garbo.

It isn't only about money.

I think we spent less in Martinez time here than we have in each of the last 3 windows.

Anyway I'm not here to defend Martinez as the guy basically has a career still because he moved Lukaku to the RW once and because Fernandinho tried to control a corner with his chest inside his own 6 yard box in a World Cup quarterfinal. He's crap. But I think he had the right idea on that front.

I don't rate Leicester's squad super highly either, but they've more or less done the strategy I'm saying since they won the title and it has netted them players like Iheanacho, Maddison, Perez, Ndidi, Soyuncu and Pereira all of which would be good players in our squad and many others in this league. Add in that they have an actual way to get youth players into the first team and you've got a club that whether they make CL or not is set up for a level of success that we are going to really need to work hard to attain.

It can't be for us. It just can't. If there isn't strategy and consideration we won't get there because while we have some money, we also aren't run by a state.
Ok lets simplify this.
( and buckets have been wasted by the likes of Koeman etc btw )

Take a look at the people involved here .
Fahad Moshiri
Big Uncle Uzzy

Agents on board like
Kia Joorabchain
Mino Riola

The Manager
Carlo Ancelotti.

Whats the overiding factor here.

MONEY .....the strench of it is everywhere , they arent messing about these fella's it takes big money these days and as Moshiri has shown he's willing to spend til they get it right.

This aint Bill with a choc ice stick fishing for coins down the back of the coach.

Wise up to what? A few posts back you listed the best players from Liverpool and City and were like "see they signed these guys so that's what we should do" and unless Usmanov is going to bankroll us to the tune of a couple hundred million in transfer fees a summer and a large yearly wage increase that is an utter fantasy. How much money would we have to give as an example Koulibaly to come here? 200k a week? 250k? Genuinely I'm not even sure if there is a number because he could still just say "No thanks, I'll play for X team that is in the CL."

Yes money matters, but we don't have enough for it to be everything.

I'm not entirely sure about that part there. I would doubt that Riola is happy with the Kean situation in the slightest as we probably said "sure, give us 3-4 years like Lukaku and we are fine with him moving on" but now 3 managers haven't been that impressed. I wouldn't doubt if that soured him on us a bit. On one hand I could understand, on the other he's a POS slimy agent so I don't care about his feelings at all.

Brand took on the job saying that the transfer policy at the club would change with the
emphasis on younger players with grand prospects and resale possibilities. The long-term over the short-term.

How does Delph and Allan fit into this plan?

Like others on here I like Allan but not at 20 million plus especially with our luck with injuries.

True he really is slimy , but the point i made is he is a high roller in the transfer stakes and is a friend of Brands.
If you want access to these top players you have to deal with these people.
And yes , that takes lots of money.
