Besic and McCarthy would have ran all over Siggurdson and Gomes last night. The quality of our midfield from the period where we had the likes of Arteta Cahill Pienaar Fellaini Osman Carsley all at their peaks has declined massively. So many signings for big money can’t even get near what Moyes spent peanuts on. Schneiderlin Siggurdson Klaasen Vlasic all awful wastes of money. Gueye has probably been the only value buy. Jury still out on Gomes and Iwobi. Bernard is lucky he was free.

McCarthy absolutely. Besic is one of those that gets better with every game he doesn't play mate.

I’m not trying to overhype either. McCarthy was great for us but couldn’t stay fit. Besic in top fitness and form was a better option than Siggurdson or Schneiderlin but again he was hardly ever in those two moods.

Two midfielders – one to get about, one who can actually take us forward creatively (I mean, both should be able to do both, really). That's not writing Gomes off – he'll come good again imo, but he needs the right player(s) around him, especially if we stick with 4-4-2.

A winger (probs the right as a priority).

A right-back.

Centre-back.

Probably that order of priority.

Keeper, defense and Strikers are serviceable and not the priority. At minimum we need a top CM and two widers. At minimum.
All depends how we want to play really. The defence and keeper are serviceable if we're going to sit deep with two banks of four and keep them protected at all times. They're not serviceable if we're going to be a bit more open, or if we want the full backs to offer an attacking threat.

Wouldn’t label Vlasic a waste of money, he is one of the few players we’ve actually made a profit on in the last few years

Part of the problem is that the majority of the midfield were bought for the 4231 that we originally adopted with Martinez (worked for 12 months due to Moyes defence and McCarthy/Barry partnership but then fell apart) and then largely persisted with until Ancelloti.

Gomes, Gbamin, Delph all bought for the '2' role, siggurdson, richarlison, Bernard, kean even Walcott (I know he was allardyce buy) all as part of the '3' behind the striker.

Of these only Richie, and to be fair Walcott at times, has shown they have a role in 442. The CM's are not dominant or leggy enough and the attackers are neither fish nor fowl in terms of genuine wing play or pass makers.

Gordon may have a role going forwards but absolutely critical to get two athletes in the centre of we are going to do anything.
We've been playing 4231 for about 15 years. Martinez just tweaked Moyes system which is why the defensive issues didn't pop up for 3/4 season 1

Christ we lose to a own goal and the beds are soaked through with the gush of FIFA 20, FM scouts and Ya Da pïss.

CARLO KNOWS, PLAYERS KNOW and WE KNOW it's not good enough

We have to do better but can we stop jumping off the cliff at every single bad result.

We WON'T be selling 10 players this summer, we WILL be seeing Kenny, Bolasie and Besic back at pre-season, we MIGHT not sign that player you never actually saw in real life but did good for you in a game, we DEFINITELY NOT chucking £500m on 4 players and Kids MIGHT not have socks for AUGUST.

Calm your skin, check in to the reality of bad signings and lots of money spent.

This whole change the mentality of Everton starts with US, the fanbase. We demand better and we should get better but we have had years on years of negativity filling the club to the brim and any light of positivity is shat on as soon as we get a glimpse.

Last night was poor but so was Spurs. We have played lots of games in a short period of time with injuries, lack of correct positional personal and we need to be better.

We have a manager who has seen it all and worked with the very very best. He knows Sigurdsson isn't suitable for central mid but he knows he is a better standard than a reserve who hardly anyone has seen. Its easy to chuck in 11 kids and not be bothered but it's desperate.

We have players all over the pitch off form, out of position, under no threat for their place and not fully fit but Carlo has to instill confidence, passion, fight and get the best results he can get and he has been doing so.

The entire team was off last night nevermind just a few individuals. Stop digging out players every single day it doesn't help anyone in fact you look like you don't support this club what so ever.

We fight together or not at all.

There's always a lot of kneejerking and I agree it's not helpful. I am not sure we learnt anything new today that we didn't know after say the Anfield match.

The issue is though, it's not 1 match. There's a 30 game run, stretching 6 years since we last won at one of the top 6 away from home. You also have midfielders who don't even put a tackle in, and the 2 things are connected. Thats not an exaggeration, Bernard, Iwobi, Gomes and Sigurdsson had 2 intercepts, tackles, blocks and clearances between them yesterday.

We are essentially playing with 3-4 luxury players in a 4 man midfield. It's made worse by the fact that most of them don't even create a great deal or score many.

There has to be balance. Probably against the remaining teams this season the midfield will be ok. It will not be as overawed as we get in away games against the top teams. It may well be sufficient to see us to a win against Southampton, and to some degree that papers over the cracks. We can't just bin everyone. However I have severe problems with most of the names above, including Iwobi now.
