ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

They are the "I'm mad me" brigade. As my partner says, if you're actually mad you dont need to say it (which she often references to me not needing to say it to be fair ha ha!).

Its ohhh, look at me, I can where a stupid costume that was vaguely funny from a racist comedy about 15 years ago but is now vastly overdone. A mid life crisis with the cool motorbike to show for it that fella.

I remember Uni being full of people like that. Making a big song and dance about how mad their nights out had been.

We've got to hope they're at least pushed a bit harder next season than the seriously underwhelming City managed this year.

A fully fit KdB and better luck with central defensive injuries (Laporte) would help although Pep did seriously badly last preseason with defensive cover recruitment - and it all too predictably came back on him big style.

City had won the title but had a complacent manager who really took his eye off the ball imo. Pep doesn't do defence .

Tbh a few of us on here were predicting a huge resurgence for the sh*te before the 18/19 season as Klopp had strengthened all their weakest links, in goal and getting van Dijk with the massive bonus of getting Dejan Lovren out of the team.

Although KdB (and hopefully Laporte) could make a massive difference, the gap between the top two now defensively isn't tiny, it's absolutely huge, and it could take at least a season to even get competitive again.

Pep, never great on defence at the best of times, has really shown his shortcomings this season imo.

City will need to replace David Silva as well remember.
Aguero is picking up injuries far more often and replacing him will be tough.
City’s defence is absolutely dire and if they lose Ederson again for a while they don’t win the league next year.

Your post illustrates perfectly the cyclic nature of football. I won't be surprised if the RS have a Fergie
like period of success. City possibly on the wane so none of the other Sky darlings can match them.

There is a long summer ahead. We know they've likely lost probably upwards of £150m already and we have no idea how sponsors start returning, or if we can start to part open grounds come September and what it does to revenue. No idea what happens to European revenues (likely greatly reduced etc). But even in a best case scenario, that fans can start to be reintroduced on a phased basis in September it will still be months before full crowds are back, and revenues close to what we had pre Covid return.

That being said, they are a long way in front currently and as things stand big favourites. It is an ageing squad, and looms set to fall off a bit of a cliff (Ah la Tottenham) together over the next 18 months, but you'd think they probably get another 12 months performance out of a lot of them.

City have been poor really. Pep's recruitment hasn't worked. They have had an enormous amount of injuries (where Liverpool have avoided long term injuries to most of their key players). Laporte coming back is massive, and for them they probably need to partner him with someone like Koulibaly. I think they resolve a lot of defensive problems if they do that, but without doing that they look a bit soft.

Chelsea look good in the medium term, but next season probably comes too soon.

Plenty of variables yet, they are big favourites though, but do think they will come back to the pack a bit.
