ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

The praise the Spirit of Shankly attribute themselves is unbelievable. They genuinely believe Liverpool FC 'listened to the fans (customers)', over furloghing staff... No they were shamed by the general public perception of the matter, which was drawing negative press and criticism. To save some PR they withdrew it, but took the opportunity to pat their self righteous fans on the head, as if to demonstrate they somehow 'listened' to them. As usual SOS lapped it up.

If the SOS were so concerned about COVID19 and the A Madrid game going ahead, they'd have been firmer in their views to the club. If, after that, the club still proceeded they would have come out saying how they were not going the game and didn't want to be a part of it. We all know they'd have loved the media spotlight, they'd have been all over various media channels telling the world about what they were doing. In reality they all went the game. The fans wanted to play it, Klopp wanted to play it and Liverpool FC definitely wanted to play it WITH the fans in the ground.

It's like when Hicks and Gillette lost control of the club. Spirit of Shankly were patting themselves on the back for ousting them because they made a few statements and someone made a video of jarg fans slagging them off with Barry Grant on his boat in Greece.

Truth is the two Americans just ran out of money.

This is a group who sung Munich songs on stage at one of their AGM's.

How can they do that?

I think in their warped little brains, it's as we use third parties (kitbag etc) to man/staff the club shops, and those businessess have furloughed THEIR staff - bugger all to do with Everton, but when has that ever stopped the customers from trying to deflect blame from their glorious cult. To the slabbers, it's as bad as or worse than Der mighty redmen actually furloughing the staff who were on their books?!?

They are just thick mutants though aren’t they, they don’t know the difference. Or at least pretend not to see it in order to “get bites from da bloooooz hahahahaha 1995”

I’ve never known a more demented set of people in my life.

The Greatest Ending to a Season of all Time

They know it and it irritates them it's gone into folklore as such...they must hate that film Fever Pitch.

I’ve just watched the end of that film on YouTube. Hahaha. I bet a few kopites threw their chairs through the telly when that film was released. Also, I cant get ‘bright side of the road’ out of my head now

I'm finding it most amusing seeing some reds now attacking us on-line for the outbreak of c-19 in Liverpool arguing that 3,000 Blues went down to Chelsea the same week as their game with Athletico so according to some of them, it was Evertonians who brought it into the City rather than the Madrid fans at their game. Laughable.
Every chance.

I'm not taking about the Echo, btw. They're an irrelevancy anyway.

Use social media; use Radio Merseyside if it comes up for discussion as a subject; make sure its aired with family and friends.

Any inquiry wont give a flying one about Spirit of Shankly (who, btw, actually alerted that club days before the game and got a comment of 'we'll stick some hand washes out'), it;ll be based on procedural matters: which organisations conspired to put that event on.

The Department of Culture, Media and Sport, Uefa and Liverpool FC and Atletico agreed that game go ahead in front of a crowd when others that week went behind closed doors.

Another issue that will defo have Liverpool FC in the dock: Rangers also played their Europa League match in front of a packed house a day later. Rangers were right in the conversation with Braga and Uefa to allow their game to go ahead:

“Supporters should be aware that following direction and advice from the club and authorities that Rangers football staff have been ordered to avoid contact with any supporters or third parties where possible. The club is in continuous dialogue with Bayer Leverkusen and the authorities over this upcoming fixture."

It's inconceivable that Liverpool wont get caught in the crossfire of who gave permission for that game to go ahead. And UEFA and the UK Government wont be slow in highlighting the free will of both Liverpool and Rangers to get the tie's over and done with...in their own stadiums and in front of their own fans.

Few interesting points raised on this. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000jgb1

Atalanta v Valencia described as a biological bomb....that's a description that has to be applied to Liverpool v Atletico. A pandemic had been declared earlier that day, and those murdering tools allowed it to go ahead "with hand wash available outside the ground". City v Arsenal already called off that night. Liverpool programme that night, though, had almost nothing to inform about the virus or its dangers.

That meeting 2 days before the game between LCC, LFC, Merseyside Police and supporters group Spirit of Shankly is, to ay the least, interesting:

LCC - "We have no power to stop it".
LFC - "We're following all the guidelines".

That's a couple of statements washing their hands of responsibility right there, especially when games elsewhere were already being called off or played behind closed doors.

I've been struck how the government and their medical advisers have never really denied the possibility of that event as a super-spreader, which strikes me that they know they have other organisations who can take the blame with them: UEFA, the city council and the two clubs involved.

By the way, if anyone thinks that LFC had their hands ties on that European game against Atletico they should realise that the day before that match both Spanish club, Getafe, and Roma contacted UEFA to make it clear they wouldn't be playing games against any team from areas where the virus was rampant. Bayern Munich took the decision to not play their game in front of a crowd after consultation with the Bavarian regional government. Also the day before the Liverpool v Atletico match, a UEFA Youth League match between Inter Milan vs Stade Rennais FC, was called off after Inter told UEFA they would refuse to host the game.

We now know that Liverpool's own fan group were registering their concern with their tie going ahead and theat club responded with the predicatable "it's not our decision, lads". That's how much they cared about the welfare of their own fans, and by extension, the well being of the population of the Liverpool area.

No wonder LFC wont offer n on the record comment about the going ahead of that game that night.

It's reprehensible that the game went ahead. I would imagine though that there would be a sufficient grey area in determining who had ultimate responsibility, and indirect liability.

The RS can point to UEFA, the Government, and probably the local health authority as well and just say they received no direction to play behind closed doors.

What is brutally exposed however is the RS' absolute disregard for the safety of their own fans, sorry customers, and the wider community.

But its always someone elses fault.
