ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

If they wanted to call it off they could have and just faced whatever the consequences where. I’m sure there would have been none anyway, not that it matters.
I still maintain that they could have made an absolute PR triumph of cancelling the game and leading the charge for halting the season as they had so much riding on it. Instead furlough fc and the co-opting of anything and everything they can has left a bitter taste in a lot of people's mouths.

Of course they could have called it off.

The PL said games were being played on the Thursday night when this all kicked off. First thing Friday morning we had players showing symptoms so sent every single member of Finch Farm’s staff home saying we wouldn’t be playing that weekend, therefore calling off the Derby and doing so regardless of the consequences. The football didn’t matter.

Liverpool new it was very dangerous, even soft arse Klopp refused to do all its hand slapping yet the game was worth a few bob to them and they thought they’d get through on another special european night so it went ahead regardless.

There were lots of decent reds warning of this, even then. John Ashton for one. Unfortunately there were (as there are now) a lot of insensitive, unintelligent, cult like followers of theirs who tend to revel in saying the most ridiculous things.

It's really upsetting, and if you would have lost a loved on on Merseyside you wouldn't find the sort of humour they engage in particularly pleasant.

If they would have called the game off, they would have been heroic. There would have been some snarky sniping from the sidelines, but they'd have done the right thing. Unfortunately they missed their opportunity to do that.

Liverpool FC and UEFA will face an inquiry over the decision to allow that Atletico fixture to go ahead. 5%-6% of men between 20 and 69 infected in Liverpool will have been massivley infleunced by that decision to allow 3,000 from Madrid to walk around the city for two days.

Remember seeing Klopp fuming at a fan wanting a high five. He knew how dangerous it was.

It's OK for the fans to be tightly bunched in and out the ground. Don't forget to squeeze in line for your half time pie and pint. Standing room only on the buses and trains.
