Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

Also as has been noted elsewhere, imagine taking police/ambulance staff etc off the front lines (even if we have 'flattened' the curve') to attend all these games - think there would be an outcry from the public and the services

The last bit of the article was quite telling.

Manchester United, meanwhile, have reiterated their commitment to completing the current Premier League season but have informed season ticket holders they can expect a pro-rata rebate or refund if matches are played behind closed doors or cancelled. The club “fully supports the collective intent to complete the Premier League, FA Cup and the Uefa club competitions”, it stated on Friday, following reports that a growing number of Premier League clubs want to end the campaign with immediate effect".

Seems like this season is finished.

In this situation actions often speak louder than words.

Theres a reason people wont go know record at this stage (and no it's not cowardice as the tin foil brigade on the Kop say) it's that this will be legally messy.

Everyone needs to show they desperately want the season to finish but unfortunately it couldn't. Everyone is also hoping someone (FA, PL, UEFA, Government) make the call so they are the ones having to defend any potential legal action.

This will be passed back and forwards a bit, I doubt any of the above have the bravery to do it on their own, so we will end up with a stitch up situation where all of the above blame each other for the cancellation, and it's hard to pin the blame on any one group).

That's my prediction from this. Time drifts without a formal resolution and they are left with no choice. The PL probably pick a fight along the way to make it look like its imposed on them.

If they were serious in extending the season, they would be actively looking to resolve the contractual dilemmas. There have been no discussion on this it seems, and it's getting to the point where it will be too late to find one.

Also with the Euros next summer they will want next seasons league starting on time to make sure it's done in time for the euros. There not going to.push this ones later, no chance

Yeah Uefa took the initiative by cementing their place in next year's calendar.

Major League Baseball should start on Thursday, they have already decided what to do if the season is called off.
I think the more sports and leagues that are called off the easier it is for the PL to do the right thing and void this season.
It was already scared by VAR and will be no.loss.

I think the fact we are behind Italy by 2 or 3 weeks and yesterday they had over 900 deaths goes to show the length of time we are going to be locked down for and alas football can't continue.

But the important piece of that statement was not the length of time, or football can't continue, it was that tragically 900 people lost their lives in a single day, many have done before and unfortunately many will continue to do so.

I've stated somewhere else, I'm not bothered about the season, if it got back underway or not, I got used to the fact Liverpool were winning the league. I couldn't get used to the fact we restarted a season and put people at risk for the sake of sport, money and recognition.

Everyone please keep safe, no matter what club or sport you follow, where ever you are in the world!

Should be saying "curtailed" and "abandoned" apparently:

This is not (and should not) be read as they don't want the discussion of null and void to go away. What they want to do is package the ideas in a more palatable, less harsh way. Indicates that they are thinking of the legal ramifications going forward (words matter) but also the PR game in trying to soften the message. Essentially try to do the same thing, but make it seem less cut throat.

This all indicates to me, they are putting the wheels in motion to cancel the season.

This is exactly it. In 3 weeks we will need to be making final decisions as to whether we can get something lashed together for June.

The other point to bear in mind, is that 900 dead is a relatively good day for Italy. This is then "flattening the curve". At the present time our curve continues to spiral.
