It's never been in question, whether football should carry on in this current climate. Of course, football should not be happening. This pandemic may end in 2 month's time or it may very well end 6 months down the line. As of right now, we have no idea when the next time a ball will be kicked, in this country, whether it's May/June or say even this October; who knows. But, the whole debate is, when football starts up again, what should happen regarding the seasons. Some are calling for next season to be started up and voiding this one, which is virtually impossible as we have no idea who will get relegated and promoted this season.
The league was a complete and utter farce this season anyway.
One team at the top on track for the all time points record not just going a whole season invincible but almost a whole season without dropping a single point. Then a team in second who despite being on of the best in Europe can only manage to gather points at less than two per game which would usually be enough for fourth.
Horrific refereeing decisions using VAR which showed up that what we hoped was incompetence was actually just blatant cheating as evidenced in the City Liverpool game where football really did die a death. Blatant handball and legitimate goal ruled out for City whilst Liverpool’s offside goal was allowed to stand. We saw it again at the derby when Calvert Lewin was clean through and suffered a last man foul and penalty. It didn’t even go to VAR whereas Mane falling over air most weeks was microscopically inspected frame by frame in the early part of the season to give them an unbelievable lead.
Cancelling this shambles of a season is a blessing to be honest because the premier league has just disgraced itself to most normal fans this season. We could just about buy it last year, when the refs decided to ignore offside rules for Liverpool in most games, but when faced with the truth that the same refs will now ignore video evidence and there’s nothing anyone can do about it then it’s a huge turn off for anyone who isn’t a member of the cult.
Start the season again, mic up referees like they do in rugby so fans can hear what’s being said between VAR and the ref on the pitch, force all teams to have big screens (funny how Anfield and Old Trafford refuse isn’t it), drug test every one of those doping cheats on a regular basis. Set up an independent body of International referees to focus on ‘unusual’ match activity such as keepers diving over balls or throwing them in their nets, or strikers from certain teams continuously missing open goals from a yard out against certain clubs, or referees blatantly ignoring VAR.
Then, if all of the above happens, we might actually have a chance of a league occurring of a level playing field which would be the envy of the world and would draw far bigger audiences than whatever the hell that ridiculous match fixed procession this season was.
Absolutely love reading your conspiracy theory rants about Big Red, please keep them up.
Can't copy and paste as its supposed to be behind a paywall – though you can sign up for free for 90 days.
But essentially says that some owners think the Premier League looks tone-deaf trying to make things happen in the current climate because it is only a game. Some chairmen have suggested that the league should be using the delay until April to negotiate with broadcasters over the size of any rebate – if they're demanding TV money back, therefore allowing them to null and void.
Doesn't say anything about a minority – less than the 14 needed to confirm a null and void season, so guessing its pretty close on who wants to cancel and who doesn't
I have no problems with them keeping options on the table for as late as they possibly can, that seems sensible enough, they just shouldn't be of the 'finish at all costs' opinion.
It could well be they return to training later than the usual start of July, so if they were to finish this season's games then next season would start later. Given that this virus could have a second wave causing another possible (if not smaller) lockdown in the autumn, then you will have to try and squeeze in games knowing that the Euro's could not be postponed any later than summer 2021. Something has to give and you much rather have one disrupted and cancelled season than finishing this one 3 or so months later than planned with all the enthusiasm of a damp squib then losing the next one because of that decision.
Is this what they call a moment of clarity?

I agree with all of this apart giving a trophy to the rs or any club they never wonDay by day the PL becomes even less important, I doubt if any family will come out of this not knowing of someone who died from Covid 19, I do already and it’s barely reached where I live. In football terms all the PL clubs will survive , whereas some semi-pro clubs with longer histories may not survive . My priorities are my family and friends and I’ve been trying to help my local club weather this. In short the PL doesn’t even register on my list of things that concern me. Stop this season , start the new one when appropriate and if the trophy means that much to the RS just give it to them .
Stop crying. Terrible post that. The league was a complete and utter farce this season anyway.
