Let's replay the seasons lost to the Second World War so lots of vindictive people can push their agenda at a time of national crisis

Or

Let's stop being silly, end the season, give Liverpool the title they were clearly about to win and begin to focus on global healing

Liverpool deserve the title no doubt, but if the season can't be completed it can't be completed. They can take the moral high ground and say they won it but it won't be in statistics.

They can use this to propel them next year where they may go on and pick up the trophy at the end. If so well done to them having to essentially do it twice.

Are any of those teams 25 points clear?

No. And they've been waiting 30 years, their current iteration is probably one of - if not the - best Premier League team ever, so it feels a bit weird and churlish to deny them the title.

Also let's be honest - they have a massive global fanbase. Think about how demoralising this would be - and would leave many feeling vulnerable at a bad time. Vulnerable = more susceptible to disease

Am i missing a joke or is that your argument?

Vulnerable = more susceptible to disease spread across many millions of people. It's an awkward phrase but giving Liverpool fans this "shot in the arm" could be a real positive at this time

Are you not due another GOT holiday? Was quite nice on here for a few months after you got chased off from the Sunderland thread.

The PL are scrambling around desperately hoping for a miracle where they can complete the season. If any league cancel the season, it will be almost impossible not to follow their lead. They will be sued out of existence of they don't.
Ideally you finish it, but closed doors hasn’t worked, has it?
Gladbach fans showed up, PSG fans turned up, so it can’t logically work, unless they played it, neutrally, with only TV Companoes knowing, but no advantage there.
If the European leagues do decide to cancel, then the Premier League has its platform and reasoning. Personally, I’d like the season to end how it is, have the two up, and give them the title, it’s the fairest way, but I know it’s going to get complicated, and it’ll end up being a baffling way, where Sheffield Utd, Wolves and Leicester all get shafted.

They are goin to win the league..granted.
But if you award it to them what do you do about relegation, promotion and other places . They are not clear cut.

You are assuming that hand washing works and this will go away
I’m afraid the World Health Orhanisation disagrees
This is not going anywhere anytime soon

You also have to factor is, why would the 6 teams in the bottom 6 agree to this. If they hold firm, and say the league should be voided and repeated, they get to stay in the league again. Increasingly they are not going to just have historical precedent on their side, but also contemporary examples when other leagues are voided. Thats the direction of travel, Karren Brady has fired the first warning shot to say as much.

I think a lot more than just 2 teams are privately thinking this as well. However in situations like this, you ant to avoid signposting your intentions too early. If I were a legal advisor to a club, I would say, keep your mouth shut, make it look like you are happy to continue the league at this stage, and will comply with whats asked to be reasonable and when it becomes clear thats not possible update your position.

Not so.

Firstly, broadcasters typically won't care when games are played as long as they get their full 38-game season and their full quota that they've pre-sold to their viewers.

Secondly, If the seasons are adjusted, the transfer windows would too. If you look at players contracts ending on the 1st July, assuming this potentially delayed season would still be running then, there would be no point in those players leaving the clubs because they would have no other clubs to go to. Why would Willian choose to leave Chelsea with 4 or 5 games remaining when he couldn't go to another club until the transfer window opened anyway, he'd be forfeiting cash and be forced to train alone until the new window opened.

It would be a very simple exercise, probably led by the PFA, to extend contracts for the short-term under extenuating circumstances. Clubs up and down the country do 3 and 6 month contracts with players all the time.

So it really only boils down to traditionalists wanting to stick to Aug-May without good reason. You say that Football fans are 'notoriously resistant to change' and yet we largely accepted goal-line technology, female officials, changes to kick-off, changes to offside rules and now VAR. For those that haven't accepted it, they've been power-less to stop any of that anyway.

Times change and Football will adapt.
Jesus wept
Willian would be a free agent and go wherever he wanted
