Club Statement: Coronavirus

This wont be banned - soon as players are fit next month they'll play behind closed doors too much controversy to cancel.

China still hasn't re-started and this is nearly 4 months later, will stringent procedures to stabilise the virus in place. I cannot see the overall number being substantially less than they are now in 3 weeks. The risk will be even greater in 3 weeks (I suspect as reporting goes up) so it is going to be much harder to start the competition again.

It's not impossible, but it would be very reckless to go back ahead with it. They have been reckless so far, so you can't rule anything out, but I'd be surprised if it went ahead.

You also have to factor is, the bottom 6 would be massively in favour of voiding the season to repeat it next year. Thats 6 teams before you get started who will drag their heels. I can't imagine Arsenal are going to want to go straight back to it. We here Spurs want to potentially void it. Leicester and Rodgers have already said as much. I imagine City would and hope we would too. As time goes by, I can really only see one team supporting the idea of awarding positions and titles in an incomplete season.

Even the Government medical officers were saying the peak would be in May so has to build to that.

What you also have to factor in with this, is quite quickly worrying about a few spoilt entitled Kopites will be the least of their problems. Aside from enormous litigation, and the fact that I can't see people fully recovering in 3 weeks there is going to be a massive black hole in terms of finances for top teams. TV money and sponsorship will already be making plans to pull out. This will start to be the priority.

That just is not gong to happen.
The crisis is starting not finishing and will be getting worse over the next number of weeks.
I think it is more likely that the season will just be scratched from the records and everybody starts season 20/21 as they did for season 2019/2020.
I believe a more relevant question now is if season 20/21 will be able to start on time.

Yes this is getting a lot worse before it gets better. This is why certain clubs (or should it be club?) have fought so hard not to cancel games. Once it's suspended it's then much harder to re-start it. There will need to be all sorts of risk assessments done,a nd medication practitioners will air on the side of caution as they know litigation will follow.

Liverpool fan group Spirit of Shankly has welcomed the decision to call off the Premier League for the next few weeks.
The Reds are top of the Premier League, on the brink of a first league title for 30 years.
"The most important consideration at this stage of the spread of Coronavirus is the health of players, officials, staff and supporters of all football clubs," the group said in a statement.
"In the weeks ahead it is likely difficult decisions will need to made about how this season's football competitions are to be concluded. As supporters – the most important stakeholder group in the game – we hope to be fully involved in any dialogue and decision making with the football authorities on these matters.
"We also recognise there will be serious financial impact on some football clubs from the lower leagues, and support an approach across football to prioritise helping them."

lol you'll get nothing and like it

My 2c as they say over in Trump land, if the thing escalates in April/May and the season is void.

- Give Liverpool an award for "outstanding achievement in the field of excellence", in lieu of their PED and VAR aided maiden PL trophy.
- Stage a summer tournament (Screen Sport Super Cup?) between Leic/Chelsea/Man U/Sheff U. Top three after a double round-robin join the PED pumpers in the 20/21 CL. Fourth place gets Europa League berth.
- Give the other Europa League spot to EFL Cup runners up Villa, force City owners to pay for the fans' travel - just because.
- No relegation. Instead, have a 22-team league like in t'good old days. Championship's current top eight have two-legged playoffs and a final at Wembley (behind closed doors I guess!). Both finalists go up, but the winner gets the EFL Championship trophy.

Rest of the EFL can do its usual ups and downs, at the end of the day it just means somewhere at the very bottom (Hackney Marshes Senior Cup Division 9, or whatever) there's a screwjob of sorts.... nobody cares I guess.

What a load of you know whatlol

Nobody is choosing to cancel or delay this, as the case may be, for sporting reasons.

If the situation allows, the season would continue as normal. The Premier League and EFL have seen sense and decided this isn't the case, delaying everything for 3 weeks. If it isn't safe by that date, then it will be delayed until such a time as it can continue. If, come June / July the season still can't re-start safely because of the virus, then there's an exceptional chance it will be cancelled and voided.

It's insensitive and disingenuous to push for an immediate cancellation just because it suits your agenda or the agenda of other clubs, rather than for the safety and health concerns that is the ultimate reason for this.
Careful all that crying will spread it more mate.

The arrogance of that. You're an unofficial supporters club full of wools, why on earth should you be consulted?

Global health crisis and it's all about them.
