Potential cancellation of games - Coronavirus

I saw you were very dependent on this for work and I wish you well buddy. I think going forward there will be lots of sports to make up for this. However Italy is "ahead" of the UK curve on this, and have taken dramatic action. The UK haven't done either of those things. If they are saying Mid April, the UK has no chance of making that deadline, even with dramatic intervention.

They are ahead in the sense that the virus is already worse there. But they caught it late. They had more cases than here - far more - by the time they took the action.

The gov are - rightly are wrongly - attempting to delay the impact because they know the NHS can't handle it.

Italy had to go into lockdown so quickly because they were so late in getting to the virus in the first place. That week of hesitation/not knowing about those cases in the north did for them. So while the action has been swift once they knew, it's had to be so dramatic because of that time missed.

I think the gov's plan is that they know this is gonna happen now but thankfully we've had fair warning. It's unfortunately not feasible to put the entire nation into lockdown for three months. It just isn't.

Schools can't be shut for three months, for example. What's going to happen to the parents? They'll need to work to be able to keep going. So who cares for the kids? Grandparents? So that just creates another problem.

I agree entirely that sporting events should already have been cancelled. That's on the gov but also on the daft PL and EFL money men. Now it's impacted them directly that will change.

But we are where we are with it. Nothing is going to stop it now so the only hope is to manage how and when people are infected. I know it sounds awful but it's the only thing which can be done since the gov have gone down this path.

I imagine mass quarantine/school closures etc will come in mid-April in the Easter holidays (schools would already have been shut for example). And they'll be hoping it's a gradual rise and then fall over a six/seven week period up until the start of the summer.

Sorry, that should have been 23, 2 and 2.

Of the 70, 6 are critically ill in ICU, with 2 of them among today's "new" 27.

This virus is clearly in the community now, and spreading rapidly.

Thats the worry mate, we don’t have many ICU beds, when this thing hits mitigation a decision needs to be made on who gets treatment in ICU, at that stage it’s not about who will recover, it’s about who will be given priority in ICU to be treated. Both the virus is a threat to life but so are limited resources this is the problem with the virus. The numbers escalate to the point that not everyone can be treated curable and or non curable.

Our commuinty transmission is still relatively low, this is the main threat.

By far the best way of managing the virus at this stage is identifying contacts of an effected person, isolating and testing these become they then become local cases, healthcare workers infected by their work are considered local to - there is an explainable source to their infection.

Even though our community transmission is low, its worrisome because if one person has it and a source is unidentified, then there is someone with going it around spreading it infecting others, unknown to anyone maybe themselves. The risk is the exponential growth, for example Denmark had 40 cases during the week they have 500 now. We had 40 odd yesterday and 70 odd today, almost a 50% jump in 24 hours and on it goes. That’s the risk the bigger it gets the harder it is to control and landslides from there.

I didn’t think we would move to the delay phase until 100 cases, so today was positive, hopefully it’s successful but I see measures escalating in the day’s ahead now we have broke the seal.

Mad thing is the Goverment call for self distancing and indoor groups of less then 50 in doors, what do people do - thousands head for the super market stockpile, and 1000s people standing in ques cramped together for hours.

People really are stupid.

They have to end it. If Arteta can get it, then so can any of the older managers in the league like Hodgson, for whom it could be life-threatening.
After typing this I had a look, after Hodsgon (72) the next oldest is... Ancelotti (60).

Someone please put Carlo in a sterile room for the next 3 months.
Carlo is a smoker too...

In Hong Kong, the students continues their studying at home by using Internet teaching (such as Zoom)
The school has not opened since late of Jan and will at least be closed until late of April.
It sounds not good but it protects the students.
