ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Dont understand the outrage about this FA Cup myself, if they dont want to win it whats the problem?

Surely its up to them how seriously they take competitions?

They wont win the FA cup. They wont whilst Klopp is there, simply cos he has no interest in it. If he doesn't want to win it, then fine, if he doesn't want to attend matches, then fine.

But under no circumstances should the FA keep making changes to the competition to satisfy clubs like Liverpool who are demanding lighter schedules but will jet all over the world for a money spinning friendly. The cup being changed will kill lower league teams. That blert Klopp needs to be put in his place by the media over this.

Probably a teeth bleaching and an appointment at the dog groomers to style his tramp beard. Then off to Germany to grab some mystery sweeties for the lads on his final push on the domestic front.

Should you ever be in the market, Switzerland is the place for that. You can buy ePO over the counter

I originally wrote Geneva and then changed it to Germany as I thought it more in tune with his nationality. Anyway, I meant something like oddball German only versions of Wurther's originals - surely you're not saying that he would be shovelling PEDs into his players?!? I'm shocked! lol lol lol

I don't think he is. Actually let me answer that in two ways... 1. I don't believe he personally is designing/administering any kind of performance enhancing regieme to his players for the reasons of deniability and (more importantly) lack of medical expertise.

2. I don't think any team in the premier league are running an organised doping programme for the boring reasons I have already outlined. But I do think that a large number of them are actively pushing the limits of what's legal (like almost every elite sport organisation). By way of an example, EPO works by boosting the oxygen carrying red blood cell count in your blood. A natural way to do this is to spend time at altitude (Egan Bernal has a naturally high red cell count, for example, because he grew up 3000m above sea level). When I interviewed a cyclist a couple of years ago she'd just taken delivery of a portable hypobaric chamber to sleep in for the next 3 weeks to simulate that effect. It was her national federation who delivered it, all legal but using the same effect (albeit less effectively) as EPO.

I'm more annoyed that they played their kids against us and we chuffing blew it to be honest

That being said, the disdain with which they are treating it is unpleasant IMO

How does it reduce the income of smaller clubs.

Because they have less games and therefore less gate receipts. An away tie to a premier league team is an absolute windfall to lower league teams. Given the premier league rather spectacularly pulled the drawbridge in in 1993, you'd think they could at least throw some scraps at random a couple of times a year.

But Shrewsbury town have a replay I don't understand how they will receive less money.
Surely playing their reserve side gives them a great chance of going through to the next round.
Shrewsbury drew 2-2 on TV have a replay on TV, and have a great chance of going through as there won't be any first team players

But wasn't the argument being presented by @Walken who argued that by allowing Liverpool to disrespect the competition by putting out kids teams and not even have your manager show up the world's premier club knockout trophy continues to be devalued to a point where "big clubs" can't even be bothered anymore.

45% of the gate at a sold out Anfield will probably pay Shrewsbury's wage bill for the year (assuming the day trippers still go to watch the kids and no Jurgen Klopp), but this isn't about them...

But surely that gives the smaller clubs a better shout at winning.
If bigger clubs played full strength the top 6 would win it every year.

Winning the cup, financially speaking, is not as important for a lower division team than an away draw at a top club. Let's say you're Shrewsbury. You've beaten Bristol City at home and you've made 25k in prize money and 45% of the gate of 10,000. You'll get no prize money and 45% of the gate for the Liverpool game too.

Away to Liverpool in the replay you're going to get snotted but you're going to walk away with 45% of the gate of 50 odd thousand at premier league prices.
