2019/20 Lucas Digne

Digne has many of the same attributes as Baines. A good technical player with a very good left foot. In addition, a very good working capacity. In similarity to Baines, Digne is also best offensively. Defensively, both can often be out of position, and due to lack of top speed, they often struggle one on one.

When Baines played, Distin often compensated for this with his enormous physique. Mina is not of the same quality as Distin yet. Anyway, Digne showed last year that he was a very good LB. So there is no doubt that he has the potential, but it is difficult to perform well on a team that is struggling. If you also struggle with minor injuries, the task will not be easier.

Quality, seriously. How many times does he have to give the ball away, or waste corners before people see he’s bang average.

Said a while back that I felt Lucas Digne looked like an 'Average Plus' defender who is decent at supporting and helping out with our attacking/forward play. This season, for me, he's been blowing hot and cold (or maybe warm and cold) and his passing and set-pieces have been below standard. He's a player I like though and honestly think he will improve.

He’s a “good” player. One of the few we shouldn’t be looking to move on.

But, even stripping out yesterday when he was clearly still not quite at full fitness, he is not top class. He’s never going to be considered one of the best 10 or 20 full backs in Europe purely because of the defensive and positional side of his game.

Defensively, he’s always been OK but can certainly be got at, and he’s been skinned numerous times this season and last by bang average wingers - but going forward he’s almost always a real threat. He’s got a hell of a shot on him and he can certainly cross a ball. In the right system, when fully fit, he’ll continue to be a fantastic asset for us.

He’s a “good” player. Nothing more, nothing less. He will be a key part of Carlo’s team over the next couple of years, but I’ll wager we won’t have the top clubs banging our door down for him, which is fine by me.
Yes, I agree his defensve work can be bettered. However, he has one of the best deliveries from out wide I've seen in a blue shirt. I've seen Dave Thomas (the master) and the likes of Steven and even Hinchcliffe who was great when at his peak. Digne is in that bracket of delivery.

He’s a decent player playing awful at the moment. It’s not a patch, it’s been all season. Let’s hope he gets back to how we was and soon. If he does he’s a decent left back.
Those “better than Robertson” shouts last season were embarrassing though so please can we stop with those....

How anyone sees Digne as anything other than top class is a mystery to me. He's injured and he's being exposed down the left by that no paced donkey, Mina.

No coincidence that when he had Zouma over there last season he was a major threat for us.
He cannot defend Dave simply as that , going forward he is very good , defensively he is appalling anyone can walk past him with ease

The defence is a unit mate. If you had the person inside you all at sea and you were asked to get up and down the pitch AND defend in an airtight way you couldn't do it.

Zouma was much more mobile and got across and lent a hand to Digne last season...just like any good CB would do.

Mina is a sloth. He therefore destroys almost any capacity for Everton to attack down the left and remain solid.
