Computer games.

Bit the bullet and purchased Death Stranding. Gotta say the stepping mechanics are INCREDIBLE. I don't want to leak any spoilers, but I will say there's a section in the game were the walking blew my mind. The grass density and the detail on some of the rocks deserves special praise.

Find it a bit mad that people are getting warm under the collar about other people liking certain games

The 'walking simulator' genre has been widely derided in recent times - but I can honestly say that some of favourite gaming experiences over the past decades have been within this genre - Dear Esther, Firewatch, What Remains of Edith Finch, Gone Home, Her Story etc - All beautiful, thoughtful short experiences that satisfy me in a way that a million triple A lootbox filled slogs could never

That's not to say that I only play these games - My all time favourites include FF7, Red Dead Redemption, numerous versions of Pro Evo, Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, Resident Evil 4. To suggest that these smaller, slower games are any less valid within the medium of gaming is ludicrous.

Just because you don't like something doesn't make it bad.

Here's the thing - walking simulators have their place in that they are 'relaxing', often short experiences that are basically an interactive movie that rely on very minimalist interaction and few fail states. They are casual experiences.

Death Stranding, on the other hand, makes the walking as fiddly and painstaking as possible, requiring constant repetitive inputs and has fail states that includes dropping cargo down the side of a mountain so you have to go down and pick it up again.

I'm not deriding Death Stranding because it's a walking simulator - I'd saying it's a bad one.

That's just not true, Tubey. But I'm not surprised to see you again mocking a game you haven't played for reasons that doesn't exist.

If you're overloaded on cargo on your back, which shifts your center of mass backward some, then going on uneven terrain (which you can easily identify with a press of R1 which scans the areas and marks it from blue to red) makes it more likely to lose balance and risk falling. You can simply hold L2 and R2 which makes Sam hold the straps of his backpack thing to steady the weight and you're good, you just move a bit slower. It does not require 'constant repetitive inputs'.

And again, its not a interactive movie. There are a lot of cutscenes, but its not an interactive movie.

You've just said what I said wasn't true, then went into painstaking detail about how what I said was 100% true.
