I'm conflicted on this if I'm honest. I personally think Son and Spurs should have just accepted the ban, but if the roles were reversed I'd want Everton to try and get the important player back as soon as possible, especially as Son's challenge on its own wasn't a red card challenge IMO and it was only due to unfortunate circumstances that Gomes got hurt
I think we all remember how West Ham had the knives out for Jimmy Mac after he injured one of their players, and we backed our player, so it shouldn't really shock us that Spurs are doing the same
I don’t honestly think the 3 game ban was the issue (especially for Son), it was more having a red card offence which led to a player breaking his leg against his name. If I committed a yellow card offence (which many, myself included, feel it was) and a player broke his leg in freakishly unlucky circumstances, I wouldn’t want a red card on my CV next to that.
The ref had the yellow card out and only changed it when he saw the injury. Understandable he was moved by this as everyone else was but it really shouldn’t have influenced his original decision.
I thought initially they wouldn’t appeal the ban as it could look in bad taste given that Gomes is out for six months plus so what’s 3 games, but having a red card next to the incident I can see why he appealed it. Cliche, but Son is not that type of player. He has also been very apologetic about it since and comes across as sincere.
