Fair play to milner for calling the system what it is, he is also spot on that it is not removing any controversyso what is the point. It's actually encouraging cheating, connolly faked pain and threw himself to the deck because he knew it would get var to overexamine a nothing incident in super slow motion

I was in favour originally. A lot of the arguments against do seen valid however. I still believe most of the problems are more to do with application of the system than the system itself. Though it's hard to say if these are mere teething problems or more symptons of the corrupción which is rife in the messed up world of the game we all love.

It doesn't take into effect how refs normally make decisions is the problem.

Some fouls in the penalty area are normally let off by the ref unless it's a blatent one, when on a yellow card and the player makes another challenge he usually gets away with it as a final warning unless it's a really bad one.
When a player handballs in the area when a ball is blasted in it's usually waved away unless it's blatent.

These rules don't apply under var. They determine a foul to be a foul big or small.

Absolutely unreal that that wasn't given and yet Keane with his eyes totally on the ball gets a pen given against him.

They genuinely haven't got a clue what they're doing.
I think VAR do know what they're doing mate. Lee Mason has said he looked at the Brighton penalty 14 times, it took 4 minutes or something similar to make the decision, so that tells you he wants the penalty, how many times do you need to look at that incident to know its not a pen? I don't believe he looked at it that many times either. He'll have got his KPI graphs and stat's out from this season and seen that no ref had been over turned and maybe that's why he has given it. It's either that or 1) he hates Everton or 2) the betting syndicates (as someone has mention on GOT) are involved. The latter seems a good bet for me (pardon the pun). We know the game is corrupted and stacked for the big teams. Liverpool's penalties against Leicester and Spurs are very dubious to say the least, but it seems all they have to do is go down in the area and there's never a problem.
The Delofeou 'penalty' at Spurs is stonewall, no question. It's 100% bent for me.

I totally get your point but feel that is, as I said, a question of application. Having said that, I start to get the feeling that the authorities are using it badly on purpose so there is a clamour against It and they can get rid of it. Maybe what you and others are saying about the problem of interpretation in football rules is the real difficulty and we should only use goal line technology.

Give teams three reviews like cricket. No other interfere from off the pitch until the captain requests something looked at (apart from goal line technology obviously).

Captain and only captain makes a signal. No gangs of players running up to the ref (instant yellow).

Making a crap system even more convoluted for me that. Just get rid of it, if you have definitive tech that reach instant decisions fine, but this business of judging human reactions on slow motion frame by frame shots is awful. It will also encourage cheating rather than get rid of it, as we saw with connolly and gerry

This is what the authorities wanted though isn’t it. Use it to legitimise favouring the big teams and cause so much confusion in other games that don’t matter that eventually it all gets scrapped and they can go back to just rigging the games how they want to anyway.

It just isnt working, the wording "clear and obvious error" doesnt help, apprently the penalty decision against Brighton took 14 views before it was given,so obviously not clear and obvious, the wrestling and grabbing in the box still occurs, the only fuction i can see it working for is offside calls but an attackers big toe being a millimetre ahead of the defender isnt really an advantage

Any handball resulting in a goal has worked (can be frustrating) as its clear to see.

Offsides are ridiculous. Toenail, armpit or a stray pube can be the difference. For me, stick with on field unless there is daylight either way between players.

Although, personally just get rid of VAR. Keep goal line technology.

This argument has possible merit until you look at something like Firminho's offside against Villa yesterday. It was ridiculous and I seem to recall them being on the wrong end of a dodgy VAR decision against Newcastle a few weeks back.

The application of poor VAR decisions or indecisions has been spread fairly evenly so far.

For me the offside rule needs changing. If the entire ball has to be over a line for it to be out of play or a goal then surely the entire player should have to be offside.

The handballs frustration was more down to the change in law,its the fouls as in grabbing and holding on corners that dont get called, they ARE clear and if happening anywhere else get pulled

If they can develop the technology to make offside calls instantaneous in the same way goal line decisions are, or somewhere close that would be a good addition. But by all account the frame speed of the current cameras is not good enough for the way they want to use it for offsides
