Got to think anyone supporting Froome will be on a promise that they'll be supported in 2021.

Thomas is the one who I can't see where he fits in.

Other dynamic is the super domestiques - is there enough to be shared around for there to be something in it for them?

6 of the last 7 grand tour winners. Throw in Sivakov, TGH, Kwia and Sosa and there is good support there even with Poels going. The challenge is getting them in shape. I don't think the support riders have been good this year at all.

The fact that Grand Tour winner and future INEOS employee Richard Carapaz isn't competing in the Tour of Britain because he wasn't granted a visa on time seems a portent of our future under the strong and stable management of migration we can look forward to.

I'm off to ride the Alps north to south on Wednesday. Three days, 13 cols, 200km and 5000 climbing meters each day... If anybody here is remotely interested in my holiday snaps, I'll bang some col photos on here. Will be nice to look in for some encouragement along the way.

If nobody is fussed then I won't spam it.

Always up for some mountains. What cols are you taking in?

You did kinda mention you moved to France to pursue a pro career as a youngster though, so I'm guessing you're pretty rapid :-)

That was some years and some kilos ago, however.

I got a very nice new bike on the Belgian version of bike to work scheme (which is AMAZING over here, btw) and got bored of only using it to ride to work and back. I found an old guide book for the route in a second hand shop a couple of months ago and decided to put a stupid time limit on it to make it interesting. That third day scares me, though.

On the plus side, French hills 'tend' to be long and moderate rather than the steeper climbs you get in the Dolomites and Pyrennes, so providing you can stay on top of your gear you can just tap them out. I presume the Bonette and Galibier are still open? Are you taking gear with you in panniers?

Everything was open as of this morning and no snow yet. Weather looks decent.

I'm taking basically nothing. street clothes and wet weather gear in one of the new-style saddle bags, tools etc in there too. Packed it all down to 3kg last night. PITA that I have to box the bike up for the TGV then find somewhere to ditch a huge cardboard box in Lyon but I reckon that will be the least of my worries this week.

Sounds like a super few days ahead, both from a physical challenge perspective and taking in some stunning nature. Good luck, and I look forward to some photos :-)
